So i was driving around my town stoping and talking to the farmers when i come accross this woman outside in the front of her property. So i start talking to her shes so nice prob the nicest kindest person ive ever met. Well we get to talking and she offers me a job outta no where so i take the job. The job is being head handler training her labs for the akc hunt tests. its awesome being paid to do something i love getting paid to play with hunting dogs all day how great is that right throwing birds and gun and water training them. So now that ive been offered a job and she really likes me being i have so much experience in dogs and hunting dogs so after all the talking and everything i tell her the reason i talked to her is i was wondering if i could possibly hunt ( mooch ) lol your land. she says sure anytime and gives me full permission to hunt deer turkey and shed hunt. i have all year mooching rights lol and no one else hunts it .she owns 440 acres with 240 of woods a 2 acre pond and the rest tillable and crp grass. Its awesome i went out mooching and came home with another job and permission to mooch gotta love it .the woman is so nice and im so glad to have met her and her 14 dogs. I thought i would just share my story and show everyone that theres nothing wrong with asking permission to hunt or mooch lol you have nothing to lose and a bunch to gain im going to try to show her the most thanx and appreciation i can for giving me the permission to hunt her land and giving me a job im so greatfull to have met her and become friends with her theres not enough words to express my thanx and gratitude to the kindest woman ive ever met. Thank you so much .

Now with all that being said the first 2 deer i take off her property will be named this:
    1: the mooch
    2: stay off my lawn
Those will be the names of the first 2 bucks i lay down from mooching lol.

Thats an awesome deal. Sounds like a great set up and decent hunting grounds, not to menton getting to work wth the dogs.

Hopefully you can negotiate some grammar lessons : )

How old is he ? How is he with basic commands and is he shy to any sounds like if you drop something or make a loud noise does he jump or run off also how is he with water I don't mean a bath tub either I mean deep water were he cant stand in . Dogs are born to not be shy with or scared of anything and if a dog shows these signs there more than likely to have learned and pick them up for somewere or someone or have had a bad experience and it stuck with them also have you started working with him or doing anything to redirect his attention and hyperness into working ? Like just going out in the yard with a fake bird scented and tossing it around or hiding it to see if he can find it or tossing it off a dock or just into any water to see if he will go in after it ?

Sounds like a fortunate encounter. We all "mooch" in some sort of fashion, though some is far more justifiable than others. Hunters that don't mind giving something back in return for hunting rights (in my mind) are not moochers, that's a symbiotic relationship. Some landowners don't want anything in return and that's their choice.

In my mind, a hunter moocher is someone that willingly trespasses and poaches game (the worst offenders) and those that feel they deserve to be allowed to hunt private property because they bought a state issued tag or those hunters that despise landowners that don't readily allow hunters in on their private property and are "put off" by a brisk "no" when they ask if they can hunt. I know the recent thread ticked a lot of folks off (which keeps spurring jibes like this title) but moochers do exist and are encountered on a regular basis.

Good luck with the hunting and dog training!

He's around 8 months old. Sits pretty good and will give me his toy when I tell him to drop it while playing fetch. I have let him run loose on an 80 acre farm but he still is hyper.

I haven't done a whole lot to work with him other than trying to wear him out. I didn't know where to start. Lol

Yeah running him isnt going to make him less hyper its building him up in muscle and stamina and will keep him hyper lol if not more hyper. But are you looking to train him as just a gun dog for hunting or for the akc hunt test certification ? If hes fixed or not will have no effect on him besides he wont want to breed or nor will he go out looking to breed those are the reasons for fixing them not to make them less hyper but to keep them in your yard and from running away to find a mate. I have a male who is fixed and he has more energy than my other 3 who are not fixed and hes not even the youngest outta the bunch hes 4 my chocolate male is the yougest being 2 years and cant keep up with him lol i have 3 males 1 female only 1 is fixed cause he was given to me fixed.

Thanx alot .Yeah ive been working with dogs since 1994 and my family breeds and owns a kennel so basiclly all my life ive been involved with dogs in some way but didnt get serious till 94. but in the last 8 years or so its gotten less popular and the demand for handlers and trainers is nothing what it used to be. Most people now just basic train them at home for hunting and not as actual gun dogs or for the akc certifications or titles.
