School was scheduled to start for my oldest (1st grade) Tuesday August 11th. However on Friday August 7th in their infinite wisdom the school pulled a classic Friday dump and announced they were closing schools and instituting 100% online learning. what does this mean? well it means my 6 year old will have to be on a school supplied Ipad 8 hours a day, it means my other 3 kids can't be in the kitchen or famiky room, it means since I work full time and my wife 2 12 hour shifts as a nurse that we won't always be available to proctor school and grandma will have to help, as she watches the other 3 younger kids. It simply isnt a well thought out plan for "normal" families, so we're home schooling, it creates more flexibility on what time of the day etc that makes it work better for us. Then after the election when the political shut down is over we can re enroll him in school. what a pain in the butt
We decided to homeschool all of our kids as well. My biggest motivation is my youngest is smarter than the grade he is in and our district won't advance him because his test scores aren't exceptional ( He's a second grader testing average for third grade math and has a reading level in the 5th grade). I know that with all the flip flopping and restrictions going into this year, it's just gonna be easier to homeschool. Now archery is a year round PE class.
I can’t imagine going through something like this as a parent... I applaud every family who manages to juggle their full time jobs as well as home schooling their children. It’s absolutely insane for me to think about. Hats off to all parents who have to do this during these trying times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I will have all three of my kids doing virtual learning. Making kids sit behind a damn computer 6 hrs a day. DUMB
Bussing is going to be a nightmare with social distancing with the same amount of busses and less than half the room to transport. Plus all Minnesota schools are on official hold till August 21, meaning logistical things are back logged on hold.
Now our county CXO is mandating everyone wear masks in every f'ing setting, all shift. Beginning Aug 17. If this virus crap is so bad why the F werent we doing this months ago. Constant knee jerk bs and I am getting so disillusioned. I can barely contain myself when speaking to people anymore. I am not holding backing and if people are uncomfortable about me refuting their illogical bs so be it.
Think the standardized testing will not see a step back? Especially with kids with learning disabilities?
We're fortunate enough to have schedules conducive to home schooling. I work 48 hours on, 96 hours off, my ex-wife doesn't work and my girlfriend currently works at a gas station while she's in school for early childhood education. We have a pretty awesome system in place. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We did the paperwork with the state then gave a call to the school too. The secretary at the school said she has gotten this call a lot recently. Im about to get real active in pushing for school vouchers. The average price for my son at a private school is $6,000 a year where I live, we would prefer to put all 4 our kids in private school but financially its not doable. average cost per student to educate at a public school here $13,000 a year. WTF, those schools arent twice as nice, dont produce twice the test scores. I know the issues but Ill end that there. A voucher program for even half that 13K and youd see vast enrollment increases as private schools. youd see specialized private schools open, music, art, sports etc. you'd then have lower student to teacher ratios in the public schools, theyd be a larger market for teachers. win win win, unless youre a proponent of forced indoctrination on children
These school districts are shooting themselves in the foot. They recieve funds, normally, on bodies IN school on a daily bases. We, just on, our hill have many families that home school. They were raised home schooled. There is a tight community of home schoolers and they are out there happy to help newbies. I predict many NOT going back.
If you come out of college with a teaching degree and you can not get a job at a public school, you get a job at a private school and get paid much less than a public school teacher.
Supposedly, teachers in the Little Rock School District Teachers Union went to the governor's mansion over the weekend and drew body lines on the street and side walk outside with the message "Are you trying to kill us?" That tells you the state of the district I am in. I freaking hate this city. It would fix a lot of the school district's problem if the mayor and superintendent would grow some balls and break the union. Do not rehire a single union teacher, go out and hire all those college education majors looking for their first job. Even with all the COVID stuff going on, they would do a better job than the worthless union teachers.
What’s going to happen when all those parents send their kids to your private school who don’t care? 11,000 to start and paid 12,000 year for my daughter and I did so for 2 main reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
