That's right folks, after more than two months of chasing whitetails in the low density big woods of Ely, MN with bow and arrow... I'm headed south, to Washburn Co. WI for the 9 day gun season. I know, I know, booo, hisssss, rifles! But after bowhunting alone all season, I am very excited for Deer Camp. Yes the five Fitz boys will do their best to fill the Buck pole. Me? I have a buck & a doe tag, and I'd like to make the freezer overflow! I'm also excited to get a little use out of my .270! She just sits there, staring at me with such a sad face each time I grab my Mathews and head into the woods. Yes, it's 9 days with the Dark Side, but then my season is over. I'm out of tags. It'll be time to get a new string on the bow, re-tune and get ready for the 2nd Annual BH.com Winter Archery League. (You're going down suckers!) So to all of you fellow hunters that will be participating in the tradition that is the WI Rifle Season.. Good luck and be SAFE!!!!
Nothing wrong with deer camp! I proudly gun hunt every year and have killed a deer 3 straight, its a tradition that wont stop anytime soon!
Good luck bud! I'm headed up this weekend myself to the NY adirondack big woods to do some hunting with the inlaws. I've rebuilt my .270 over the summer (looks/shoots like a whole new gun) and I can't wait to carry it afield.
I know you've said it before, but what town are you going to be by? My family has a cabin in Burnett County and my brother and some other guys will be up there hunting. I'll be at the other cabin closer to home dragging everyone's deer out, but may take a run up to see you.
We're near Trego (between Spooner & Hayward). Love to have you by for a beer. PM me your cell, then I can harrass you all season with txts from the tree.:D
Gun hunting is just not so challenged friend of bow hunting. I know I enjoy and take advantage of it Saturday youth season!!!!!
I'll be in a stand Friday morning over an hour before daylight waiting for first light. It is a bit odd having a 12 gauge with me instead of my Mathews, but the time at camp is still great. If Illinois would ever allow us to carry a bow, I would drop the gun in a heartbeat.
