A couple of months ago I posted a thread about how to go about securing land for this bow season since I'm stationed in SD and don't know a lot of locals and the responses I got from the thread were helpful but I contacted three local farmers and they basically hung up on me. Now all the public land spots are just about filled up. Looks like im Heading bakc to SC a couple more times this year haha.
Don't give up. I have had some luck in the past with just posting an ad in the paper stating that I was looking to lease some ground just for myself and that i am NOT an outfitter. Also, If a farmer knows that you are willing to takeout a $1M public liability policy (which is very cheap) they will often loosen up. Lastly, make sure they know you will provide a document absolving them of any responsibility should you or a hunting partner get hurt on his preoperty. Lastly, I have been doing some research myself on SD. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of walk in areas opem to the public. The number of hunters allowed on any given are per day is limited which is nice. The new book detailing all of the areas is out now. Just got it in the mail. hope this helps!
Thanks for that Straight, yeah Ive been trying to scout public land and every spot that ive found that has potential has someone who has already found it. I got some connections across the state but it comes down to getting my SSgt to let me take the days off.
when you say "stationed" what does that mean? If your in the military or on a military post usually they provide hunting for there own. I'm sure you've thought of this.
