Well, I survived it. (Updated Pics added in 1st post) Had my knee surgery today for a torn medial meniscus. All went well and so far no pain. They said two weeks off but I don't at all see that. The end results all wrapped up: 4 Days after. Doc said 2 weeks recovery time on crutches then a couple more on light duty. Hell, I walked the dog around the block this morning A little bruising and a limp in the walk but other than that it was piece of cake.
I can read it. The pictures show you to be out of shape, pregnant and you have a yeast infection. Plus, your right one hangs low. Odd for a man. LOL Glad it went well Rick. Hope to see you on the dance floor with your lovely sooner than the docs say. Just think how bad this would have been 100 pounds ago. Good luck my friend. Glad it went well.
Rick, trust a guy who has had three knee surgeries. STAY off that knee for at least 2-3 days while you ice for 20 minutes, 6-7 times a day. The reduction of swelling will allow you to recover weeks ahead of schedule. Also, with your age your circulation of that joint may well be slower than before so you cannot risk that joint swelling the first few days. When I had my cartilage surgery my junior year in college I literally walked out of the hospital. I thought the cartilage surgery would be nothing compared to the two ACL surgeries I endured. Boy was I wrong. My the second night I had so mistreated my knee by walking and thinking I was tough that it swelled 3 times the normal size with blood. I was in so much pain that I could not sleep, even with Tylenol with Codeine. I had to drive myself to the surgeon on day 2 to have my knee drained. Two full tubes later and I could walk and the pain was gone...but those two days of pain were hell because I jumped the gun on my recovery. And your MRI---you had dead cartilage just hanging in your knee joint. You more than likely had days where you felt ok, followed by days where it ached like crazy and swelled.
Thanks everyone. Va, you are exactly right on everything you said. It hurts a little more this morning and I iced it 15 minutes every hour yesterday and have ice on it now. I took one Oxycodine last night about 11 and another an hour or so ago. Doesn't do anything but keep me awake. Been up since 2:30 after going to bed at 11.
Ahhh yes, I had trouble sleeping after my surgery too. I bounced back and forth between my bed and my recliner and just could not get comfortable. It will get better. Now get some sleep.
Glad the surgery turned out well. Now take care of it and get better. Stretch out in a comfy recliner with a soft wool blanket and you'll feel better right away
I've had both of my knees scoped, first was back in 99 and then the other in 06, I can tell you this much the technology available (and skill of the doctor) my right knee in 06 healed up twice as fast. Just stay off it for the first few days and follow the therapy, you'll do fine. Just remember they don't stitch up the cartiledge, they trim the torn part off to clean it up so you will have some little aches, etc ahead.
oh, read down further and you said you had trouble sleeping?? this has worked for me in the past... get as many comforters as you can find around the house instead of proping your ankle up on a pillow, build up the covers all around your leg so it cant really move while sloping it up and you have support behind your knee. this way its elevated and immobile. i sleep better knowing even if try to roll my leg will be fine (shaddered left leg-rods and screws all down it) & (total reconstruction of right knee-acl,mcl,pcl,miniscus) not sure if that'll help or not but i just figured....
Like some other dudes here, I've been through knee reconstruction...take care of it now. The better it heals, the less problems down the road. Glad the surgery went well.
