Me and my buddy were out muzzleloading on saturday, and his grandpa went with us, but sat in a different spot... He shot at a big doe, and blew it's **s end out we got good blood, for like 60 yards then it began to rain.... so we just just gave up and tried again the next morning, and we ended up jumping her about 100 yards into the swamp... and we got on a good blood trail finally. after about 2 hours of following her, she was hurt so badly that she coulden't even walk anymore. so we had to go right up to her, and i jumped on her back as my friend slit her throat.. i felt so bad but it was better than her having to go through the pain even longer... We weren't expecting to find her at all, so we never brought our guns....

My question is, have you ever had to jump on a live deer? and slit it's neck?

Nope (never had to jump on a live one...did stab one though *see below post), when tracking if legal to carry my weapon I will always for that very reason.

FOR SURE! I did one time have to end a button bucks life as I didn't have any more speedloaders (shot two deer back to back and must have left my extra speedloaders and powder at the house...I was like 15). Stabbed my knife straight into the heart and it was over fast.

Did it last night. My girlfriend double lunged one, between the last two ribs, and we let it sit for two hours. Followed a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could have followed for 100 yds and she was still alive, barely, but alive. tough animals!!

A few buddies were hunting a few years ago and one shot a nice 8. He waited a while then started tracking. He jumped it once, then pulled back and waited till morning. They jumped it again the next morning, but it was hurt bad and didnt go far. He got another shot, with his bow, and hit it in the antler, lodging the arrow in the antler. The deer finally laid down and the 2 of them walked up to it and the buck was looking at them. They made a plan. One got out his knife and they were going to count to 3. One guy was going to grab it and the other slit its throat. When they counted to 2, the deer stood up and snorted as if he understood their plan. The guy without the knife ran away and the other guy grabbed the antlers and wrapped him around a tree and was able to finish him. Pretty funny listening to them tell the story. He was able to get it mounted with the arrow still in the antler.

I have slit their throats before and it is no fun. I also had to finish one off with a spotlight. A buddy of mine had left my house and hit a small doe with his truck. It was laying there flopping around so he shot it in the neck with his bow to finish it off. He shot it and it gets up and runs off. So we started tracking her and followed a very faint blood trail for about 200-250 yards in the dark. All we had were a couple flashlights and one spotlight, expecting to find her dead. Well, she wasn't dead. So, I snuck up behind her while my buddies kept her attention. I jumped towards her and swung all at once, hitting her in the back of the head as hard as I could. Surprisingly, that was it. She fell over, flopped a couple times, and it was all over.

Wow those are crazy stories haha That happened to me before when i shot a doe in the ham and my buddy had to jump on the back and hold it down while I held the head and cut the throat. It was the first time i had ever done it and when it bleated out some god awful sound I definitely stuck with me pretty vividly haha. Another time I gut shot a doe and after about 70 yards of tracking, as my grandpa and I walked up to it I didn't have any more bullets, so my grandpa hit it in the head with a log hoping to finish it which it did knock it out, but after a couple minutes of unconsciousness it came back and I had to cut her throat, and it just makes you feel awful.

Have never done that after a deer was shot. I have made a couple follow up shots on spine shot deer and one on a liver hit deer that I stupidly tracked way too soon. A mortally injured deer can seriously hurt you... be very careful.

Did it this year and hated it. I hung a new stand with my buddy when we were walking back out we walked up on a buck that had been gut shot. He was close enough to death that he could barely stand up. All we had were knives with us. The deer got up and started to stumble off into the crp grass. We didn't want to loose him because its so thick. We ran him down, only about 20 yards. Then I grabbed his antlers while my friend put the knife through his heart.

I felt horrible, but I knew we ended his suffering. Also the neighbors couldn't confirm the deer, so we got a tag from the police as a road kill. I felt better knowing that the deer didn't rot and will be eaten still. Somebody took a pop shot at him with a 20 gauge slug. No exit hole and when we dug the slug out of him it was completely intact. It makes me sick knowing people shoot at live animals like that. Who knows how far away he was, but I'm guessing it was a long shot. If he was any reasonable distance the slug would have either mushroomed at least a little bit or blown right through him. The bullet only contacted hide and intestines/stomach organs.

Great stories guys! and yes it's very sad, but its better than watching them suffer you know? But it was definitly an adrenaline rush being so close to a live deer!

I did but not while I was hunting.

Driving back to Tennessee at 2 A.M. in heavy fog back in 1987. A 10 pt. buck came out of a ditch between the north and south bound lanes and just appeared in front of my car. I hit him broadside with a 3000 lb. '78 Buick Regal at 70 m.p.h.. It busted him up good on the inside but it didn't kill him.

The only thing we had was a knife that a passer-by had. So he held the rack and I cut the throat. It was about a 3/4-1 inch diameter stream of blood for several seconds.

had to have the car towed away because he wiped out my front end. I still can't image something going that fast and that heavy hitting something weighing maybe a 1/16 of the cars weight and still not being killed outright. The passenger side fender even had a big dent where the bucks head swung around at impact and pushed in the fender.
