So I have a weird pin gap in my sight. I have a trophy ridge 5 pin sight. I was shooting great and everything was dialed in. I then decided to switch broadheads and switch from shooting 100 grain to 125 grain. I got new field points on my arrows to sight in my bow which should put my pins just a little lower. When I was sighting it in, my 20 yard, my 30 yard, 40 yard and 50 yard are all dialed in ( didn't have time to get my 60 yard pin sighted in today). I am hitting a small circle with every shot. But what is weird, the gap between my 30 yard and 40 yard pin is noticeably larger than the gap between my 20 and 30 yard pins, and also my 40 and 50 yard pins. My pin gap from 40 to 50 is a littler smaller than my 30 to 40. So it just doesn't make since. I thought it was me ( still do a little). But I shot all those distances again and everything is hitting the mark and each feels like a great shot/release. I am shooting bloodsport arrows cut at 27 inches. They are 350 spine. I have a 27 1/2 dl and shooting 68 pounds. Does any body have some insight on what is going on? Or if I am just going crazy? Haha
My pins were the same way when I used 5. The gap between 30 and 40 was always wider than any of the other gaps. I'm sure it has to do with how the arrow arcs in flight from different distances but I don't know the specifics.
I think you're ok. The main thing is you are hitting your marks. There has to be some scientific math equation with drop off from those distances but I'm not smart enough in the math department to even start that. As long as you're hitting your marks and you feel confident with releasing an arrow, I'd say don't overthink it. Grab a beer and watch some post season baseball.
I will definitely check to see if my bow is completely tuned tomorrow morning also! until then, I will believe i will do almost that, a cold beer and some hunting show.
My theory, while unproven, is that there is some change in how your eyes focus between 30 and 40 yards.
That is completely normal! Everybodys setup is different but when it reaches a certain point (distance) your arrow drop will increase dramatically. Look at Bullet ballistics it is virtually very similar. At 20/30 yards your arrow velocity is pretty close to the same but once you hit beyond 30/40 your arrows will lose it at a much higher rate which increases the drop. I would not worry about it all.
Compeletly valid - put another way - your arrow is constantly slowing down from the second it leaves your bowstring
I shot this morning and everything is hitting great all the way out to 60. The only inconsistencies were from me. So I'm pumped to try out these new ramcat broadheads
