PBR???? Don't know what your're referring to. It was a damn monkey is all I know. I liked the dude.... but he took off at the first gun shot and wouldn't leave the trees. LOL He probably ended up in someones stew pot. We had a pet dog... little fuzzy jelly bean type. We called him bore brush after a tank bore cleaner. We spend a night with the mountain yards near Heip Duc and he disappeared.... probably into someones cook pot to. That really pissed us off. You like pictures... Here's myself and my brother in June 1970 during my second tour. I had gotten out of the field after 8 1/2 months as a company commander. He was a Marine Engineer outside of DaNang. THe general let me leave a few days early to visit my brother while I was heading for R and R. I ended up in the Brithish Military Hospital in Hong Kong for a month with falcifurim malaria instead. Now that's a family portrait.
We raised a couple of Raccoon's. The dog and the coons got along great. The coon would ride on the dogs back at times. We also had a crow. These are one Intelligent critter!!! We had this thing talking somewhat. It was neat. Right before I was born my dad had raised a brush wolve. That wolve was his best friend. I tried raising a young woodchuck but he died. He was a mean SOB. He niped my finger one time, blood all over. Dad laughed at me as he said "I told you so, keep those damn fingers out of the cage". This Is Illegal has heck but my dad and I caught a couple Canadian Geese one day on the road and threw them In a box when I was riding with him In the milk truck. They were goslings at the time. They ended up being cool pets and were very protective of my brother and I. I was maybe 13 years old at the time. They stayed around all summer and one died from a predator of some sort. The other I think got with some other geese that were In the river behind the house and flew south for the winter. The next spring we had a goose that would wander very close to our house. I'm sure It was the one from last year. I watched this goose all summer In the river behind our house, It was neat. He/she would let me get really close to It, even with her/his little goslings In tow. Besides weird animals we had dog's, a few cats, pigs, horses, rabbits, pheasants. I miss having horses at times.
PBR Mark II boat. pops talked about them all the time, about how cool they were and how great they could manuver! yeah sweet pics, next time im home i'll hit the old man up and see if he'll let me thumb thru some of his pics from Nam sorry for the thread bust
That's an M113A1 personnel carrier. LOL The only pictures I have of Vietnam(quite a few reallY) were taken by my medic or someone else. I have some pretty neat ones but I think I've posted most of them at one time or other. I still get one now and then that someone will send me. Like this one of me leading some VIP's through the battlefield the next day to verify the body count. We had to spend the night with 59 dead NVA so they could come in and prove we didn't make 'em up. It was near the site of Mai Lai where the big Calley stink had just been released to the world. I was ticked. We waisted a basic load of ammo that night trying to keep the demons away.
I found a baby racoon, whose mom was splattered on the road side. Kept her for about 6 months.. she got mean as she grew, so I set her up a nice little place in the corner of my friend's barn. She's still around, with her young and comes to the back porch for an occasional meal. I dated a girl with a hedge hog.. creepy little critter.
Raccoons are the alcoholics of the animal world. In college, we'd take a watermelon and core it out leaving a half bowl that we'd fill with liquor and leave on our deck. The raccoon that lived in the tree next to our apartment would come down and drink the liquor and occasionally eat some of the melon. Eventually, we could just put out containers of booze and he'd drink them. He would get so effed up all the time. He'd let us pet him when he was drunk. He didn't mind having people around then. We did stop giving him booze after he fell down the stairs and nearly missed the tree branch when he tried jumping in the tree in the same night.
