What are some of the odd hunting related laws in the state(s) you hunt? For me, I live in Louisiana but hunt in Mississippi mostly. In Mississippi, which is a predominately rifle hunting place (can rifle hunt from mid-November through January), you can hunt over a feeder as long as it is 100 yards away from the hunter. A 100 yard shot with a rifle is a chip shot that anyone can make. It just doesn't make much sense. Regardless of your feeling about feeders and deer hunting, I can't understand the 100 yard rule. Honorable Mention: I don't understand the reasoning behind the Illinois rule that requires your bow to be in a case when you're in your vehicle. Any others?
In Indiana we can't bait but we can hunt over foodplots or ag fields, of which Indiana is nothing but corn and soybean fields. I've never understood the difference between hunting over corn that I threw out on the ground and corn growing out of the ground that I planted. Blessings........Pastorjim
The IL bowcase rule is ridiculous. And the fact that we can't carry concealed during bow season is bizarre as well IMHO.
same here in TN. its weird I could throw out ten apples on the ground and it would be illegal to hunt over , but I can hunt over an apple tree that has dropped 20-30 apples on the ground and its perfectly legal. which is fine with me cause then I don't have to worry about buying apples all the time haha
Our bows have to be in a case or otherwise "rendered inoperable" when in a vehicle - including an ATV.
Many a bow string have been accidentally cut by guys just using zip ties around the string and cable then try to cut it off with a knife.
I liked it but let me amend my original statement. They should just let hunters hunt through the gun season with archery tackle if you have a bow permit. Instead of making you buy a gun permit to use the bow. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
There are like 10-12 counties in Texas that make it illegal to use blood tracking dogs on your deer. I happen to be in one of the counties lol
Couple more dumb PA laws. 1. You must remove all salt/mineral licks 30 days prior to opening day. You must also dig up the dirt around the salt lick. If a warden tests the dirt where you had a lick and finds salt you will get fined. 2. Legal Shooting light ends a half hour before the sun even sets. This next one is the worst 3. You are allowed to shoot a deer on someone else's property as long as you are standing on your own. You may not however retrieve a deer that is on someone else's property. Once that deer crosses into a neighbors yard, the neighbor has every right to deny you access and let your deer rot. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
In recent years WI got rid of its dumb laws regarding bowhunting. I think its pretty good now. We got rid of Bow cases, We got rid of backtags, We got rid of in person registration. We got rid of hunting hours and replaced them with shooting hours and other dumb laws. I think the last remaining dumb law (which was a new one only a couple years old) is that the crossbow season would run concurrent with bowhunting but my Father is working to end that and to now shorten the crossbow season. On Saturday his resolution to do so was advanced and I suspect crossbowing will be shortened for the 2018 season and thereafter via the DNR rules making process.
