Kind of the same thing here man, kids are time consuming enough, I don't seem to have much time to lift or workout anymore. I get a few workouts in a week, but mostly cardio anymore. At one point in time, I curled 135# 6times, now 80# is more than enough to make my arms ache.
This may sound stupid to some of you guys, sometimes I think lifting changes the way I shoot...and not for the better. It seems that you work different muscles when you shoot than the typical workout. My form always seems to feel a little different when i'm in a lifting regiment. What do you guys think?...
I could see this happening if you are shooting on days you are lifting on. I would think it would be from muscle exhaustion though but not because the muscles are worked differently. I lift and shoot, but shoot VERY little on days when I workout those muscle groups (Mon and Tue for me). My form and groups are fine on the other days.
:hijack: What's a "P90X???" And if I get it, can I get away with only buttoning 2 or 3 of the 10 buttons on my shirts????
I have an old high school buddy that has a crossfit gym, that is hardcore training. Think I might check out the P90X everyone is raving about so I can save time and gas.
Now your just showing off Crossfit is not a gym. You don't need a gym for a lot of the workouts. It is just a site that offers a lot of possible workouts FOR FREE. The P90X must be fantastic b/c I have not heard one person use it and say it was not a killer workout, but you can get similar results and get them free of charge by doing some crossfit routines. Just a thought. As far as shooting and lifting, I definitely think that it helps my shooting... with the caveat that I have to be rested to shoot. I cannot shoot when I have been lifting hard, or even the next day. well, I can, but my 40 yard groups more than double in size. Also, come mid-August, I give up on the gym and focus soley on cardio to get in shape to chase elk (I do cardio throughout the year, but really hit it hard for a month). Also, that gives me time to focus on shooting without being tired and shaky. Honestly, I lift hard 3 days a week and run 3 days a week. I don't do crossfit b/c the Air Force base gym is next to the building I work in. Sure makes it convenient.
Lifting on shooting days is bad news for me - I get tired very quickly when shooting and my form is a wreck no matter what I try to do. As for injury from lifting - good point to take it easy, but working out your muscles to failure can be done with very litte weight - it really comes down to good form in your routine. If you don't have it, find a different exercise that is not as advanced. The guys that overdue it usually stop after tweaking something a few times.
Another A + for P90X for me to, I miss throwing some iron around but im getting amazing results so far, and im just on week 10. Remember people, its not just weight's and workout's, Its workout's, Diet, and rest!! Hell, if this 43 year old geezer can kick plyometrics butt now, then it must be working :d Did i mention im back to my Senior High school weight 185 lbs now, 2 1/2 years ago i was 230 lbs One thing about P90X workout's, is that it ensures your very warmed up before even starting, so as to promote and injury free workout cross fit sounds killer to
