Tomorrow, a buddy and I leave for the New River for a week-long camping/fishing trip. We've been planning this for a couple months now and the time is finally upon us. I'm going to attempt to catch a musky (more than one I hope). :) I have ZERO experience with musky but I think I've researched enough and have all the right equipment to successfully catch (and release) them. If not....I'll stick to the ole standby, smallmouths. Wish us luck!

Should be a good trip, Finch. I think I'm finally hitting the water on Friday morning. Looking forward to the pics!

Sounds like a great time to me. Can't wait to see photos.

Just remember, "Fish of 1000 casts", but hey, you've got all week :D

Thanks people. I'm making my list and checking it twice. Packing up and heading out at 4 today when my buddy gets off work.

That's what I hear but I'm very optimistic. Who isn't when they go fishing though? :D It's definitely going to be a challenge all the way around. I'll be in my kayak, on the river, with (hopefully) a big ass fish on the other end of my line. Hoping I won't be taking a drink in the drink. :)

Actually its a fish of 10,000 casts but hey who's counting...:p. You will love musky fishing, as soon as you see that first follow where you have a 50 inch fish laying just below the top of the water by your boat, eyeing your lure. You will be hooked for life.

I fish the New River quite a bit, but I have never caught a musky... never really tried either.... ;) Good Luck Donnie, they're in there.

i've been on the New River (but not for fishing) before... was a white water rafting trip, then we camped the night on some hilltop as a group. pretty fun and very beautiful area! you'll have fun and best of luck with the fishing!
