The best thing about this weekend is the wind. Normally you get a strong low pressure that draws the cold front down and have insane winds on the backside. With this being a high pressure system we're looking at those same kinds of temperatures but winds are under 10mph. This would have been one of those "perfect storms" 1st week of November. Beggers can't be choosers though, taking full advantage of it. Greatest thing about this, it's happening during the heart of the normally dubbed "October Lull".
I know I'll be in the stand, I think the temps alone might just get the deer moving. Add in everything else and it could get the big boys showing up at daylight. If this isn't a recipe to kick off the pre-rut then I don't know what is.
I'll be hanging out in Carolina this weekend but I will be in a stand Saturday and possibly Sunday. I'm ready to drop the string on something.
If you guys had one day you could call in all year, would you use it this weekend or wait until late October or early nov? It's a tough decision and I could use some advice
If I had to choose it would be one of the days between Nov. 5-8th... Here in the Midwest you can take it to the bank that a LOT of big bucks will fall on these days.
This is what Im expecting. I was still seeing bachelor groups earlier this week (one group had a couple mature bucks in it, too). I expect the sparring to get a little more intense and rubs and scrapes should pop off big time. Now I just need to figure out which spot I want to hunt.
I cant wait to get out!! All the bucks i have on cam is at night, hopefully this will get them up and moving a little in daylight hours.
Sitting here waiting to go out this evening, but tomorrow is the day I am most looking forward to. Tonight will be the first evening sit in this stand, hoping they haven't chisel plowed the field yet. Pretty stiff wind gusts currently. Hoping the 4 scrapes in the vicinity of my stand see some activity.
I've never seen more anticipation for a mid October hunting weekend. Thanks Justin. What's next, you going to play a flute and lead hunters off a cliff or something? Lol.
