I've had one Pumking so far this year. I love it but I wish it were more like fall weather and not in the 90's. If you liked it, try to keep an eye out for a stout they're releasing called Warlock. It's available in the NE right now and I'm just waiting for it to go through distribution process til it's in my area. I've heard it's supposed to be a pumking blend.

I think LA is supposed to be getting Pumking soon. Still too early, but I'll get a few bottles and hold them till Fall.

Grabbed some Dark Hollow Artisanal Ale for either tonight or tomorrow to kick off the evening before moving on to the cheap stuff.

For all the home brewers, I'm starting my first batch today. I would like to put the wort into my gallon carboy, but is that large enough when taking into consideration the bubbling that takes place during fermentation? I have the primary fermentation bucket, but I'd like to do it in the carboy to keep an eye on things.

Probably too late but as long as you are only pitching one packet (or pouch) of yeast then you should be fine. Keep an eye on it though, if the krausen starts coming out of the airlock then google "homebrew blow off tube" for an alternative.

I went with the carboy, looks like I'll have enough room. I'll let you know how bottling day goes and then of course, tasting. So far so good.

Famous last words....haha. I was in kind of a hurry last night so I didn't have time to expand on what I was saying. I mentioned that if you only pitch one packet of yeast then you should be fine. What I meant there is that as you progress into homebrewing and get a little more comfortable with the process, you are going to try to find ways to refine your process to make better beers. One of those refinements is going to be pitching larger quantities of yeast (ideally after growing it), this will make your beer ferment out a lot faster. A side effect of a quick fermentation is a large "head" aka krausen on your fermenting beer which will result in foam going out the airlock - a blowoff tube is basically a large tube coming out the top of your carboy into a pail of water. Doing this will safely let any excess foam out without exposing your fermenting beer to an harmful bacteria.

Another answer to a question you never asked....:p

Thanks for the info. I haven't even been fermenting for 24 hours and I'm already thinking about what I want to brew next. I'd like to do a hard cider, do you have any experience with ciders?

I picked up some Snake Hollow India Pale Ale over the weekend and I must say that it is the worst tasting beer I have ever had. Who in their right minds puts Pine and Grapefruit in beer and would think it tastes good? It reminded me of turpentine with a shot of citrus and hints of Windex.

It was a relief to see bubbles coming through the airlock this morning, glad to see things starting to happen.
