Well, anyone practicing yet? Anyone know when they plan to shoot their scores?

I've been buried at the house after work cutting and then painting base boards and quarter round to complete my new living room. Been too busy with this and work to practice this week. I'll be shooting my BH.com league score in my regular local league on Wednesday, hopefully I'll shoot something decent despite the lack of practice this week.

I'm going to try on practice a couple times this week. Sounds like we're in for a warm up later this week, which will be nice for shooting.

My first practice round was dismal at best.:bash: I'd like to blame it on the fact that I had spent 3 1/2 hrs the day before, bushwhacking a new snowshoe path with a machete, my arms were pretty weak, it was hard to hold the bow straight.... of course its much more likely that I just suck that bad!

I plan to shoot Friday evenings at my local shop. Currently, it is the only day during the week I can shoot. I have never shot for score before, so this should be fun. Low scoring, but fun! I will be shooting with my brother so you can bet there will be a little trash talking.

I may go out and shoot right now. I'm not getting much shooting time in either with the weather and trying to line up the closing on our house.

I've been shooting a little in the basement lately. Haven't shot a full round yet tho. Probably shoot mine this weekend.

I'm gonna shoot another practice round tonight and try to get a little more dialed in before I shoot my official round. I seem to get better the more I shoot (go figure) so I'm going to keep at it and try to get my muscles back in shooting shape. Probably shoot my official round either Thursday or Friday.

    Nice shooting Matt!

I shot another 10 yard game tonight in the basement between coats of paint on the baseboards and quarter round that I'm getting ready to install in my living room. I still haven't shot since last weeks league night on Wednesday, and I was just looking to get into the rhythm so that tomorrow at my league I wasn't completely cold. Shot 300-29X on the full size target. I should be able to put up a decent number tomorrow if I can keep my head straight, and get out of work with enough time to get to the range and sight back in from 10 yards to 20. My bow is so slow at 50lbs and with these 600+ grain arrows that there is almost a 5" difference in POI from 10 yards to 20. :d

Matt, forgive my ignorance I'm a hunter not a target shooter, but what is the advantage of that setup? I would think a flat shooter would be better. Don't you have to be perfect formwise to duplicate every shot?

Indoors at a known distance, when wind doesn't affect anything at all, speed is of no advantage really. Most of your better indoor shooters shoot lower poundage simply because it's easier to to setup each shot perfectly when your muscles don't fatigue. There is no real advantage in my opinion of a heavier or lighter arrow, but when you are shooting a fat line cutter style shaft with a heavier point in it to break the spine down a bit and get a decent FOC, then they just happen to weigh in pretty heavy. I'm currently shooting aluminum 2712's indoors and they are even heavier than the carbon 30x Pro's I shot last year. I'd say my bow is probably shooting in the 220fps range, and there are a lot of guys waaaaay better than me in my local league that are shooting setups significantly slower than mine.

Now outdoors when judging unknown yardage, and wind comes into play..........some speed is nice and an advantage. I don't feel that anything over 285ish is really an advantage from hunter stakes due to good pin gaps and the fact that it's easy enough with a bit of practice to pick good numbers on those types of shots, but when you start shooting out past 40 yards and have an adjustable worm drive target site speed is always a nice thing. Last year for 3D season I was shooting 305ish from the Open stakes, and I'd take more if I could get it with a bow that is still forgiving and fits my frame.

So of the 17 contestants, the question becomes how many will stick it out for all 8 weeks? :D I really need to get my X count better, but this crap weather we've had and my limited daylight, I've only shot three practice rounds.

3 practice rounds! I wish I could fit 3 practice rounds in! ;)

Got out of work late today and struggled with getting it sighted back in at 20 from where I practice at 10 yards in the basement. I had it pretty close when we started scoring, but I dropped 2x points that were really strong shots that just barely went out. I was beating the heck out of each target at the 7 o'clock position, sometimes catching the X, sometimes just the 10, and then sometimes just barely out. I finally got it figured out at the beginning of the second game. :bash:

I'll do my best to practice next week a bit more. I did make 3 bad shots tonight but 2x of them still hit the 10 ring. I got lucky on those ones.

Saw the score, and well, you don't need 3 practice rounds:d Nice shooting Matt as always.

Shot my score today. I'll likely shoot another one tomorrow but didn't want to wait to post my score because that temptation to use the higher of the 2 rounds is there.:d

I shot decent enough for my first vegas round in a long time, 283 6x. I'm happy with it except for a 7 I got when I creeped forward a little bit on a shot and had a premature release. A little fatigue towards the end, noticed a little extra wobble in my sight picture.

Gives me a starting point and hopefully I can improve every week.

I think I'm going to find me a big, long stabilizer and switch over to Open class. Then, I'd come in second in the class. :)

I got two 6's in my practice round when I was trying to talk and shoot. Other than not doing that, I'm not sure what I can do to improve my score. I'm just too darn shaky. :(

Sorry to hear about the premature release Mo_bowhunter. :d

I'm posting mine now... What a difference a week makes! :d

    I changed 3 things:

    -Slight drop in my site
    -dropped my # from 62 to 56
-used my wifes release/changed my anchor point

Plus it was 25 degrees warmer today (28 out right now) and my arms aren't as sore from trimming a snowshoe trail with a machette.

Anyways, my score jumped dramatically from my 1st two practice scores (:bash: 251-1x, and  261-3x) to a 284-10x:d :d

I don't think she's getting her release back! I really just wanted to get into the 270's being that its my 1st time ever shooting any league.

Now we'll have to see if I can keep it up, or if it was all just a fluke!:deer:
