    Hello everyone,
Well finally got to spend some time last night at Bass Pro Shop's range with my new PSE Stinger. I had shot better than expected, after adjusting my sights, from 10, 15, 20 and 24 yards...all with in a 4" to 5" groupings but still a lot of learning and strengthing to do.
The manual says to wax the strings before every shooting session and the guys a BP says NOT to apply wax to the strings where they ride over the cams or idlers. Does this sound right? I bought some of the bow wax and it comes with a leather pad to really get it heated up so it melts into the sting.
Just want to do the proper thing to take care of this bow.

    Thanks,
    Palmer

Nice video but he shows and tells you to put it all over your cams and servings...and I thought you were NOT supposed to do that?

i've never put wax on the cam area. i wax my string if i shoot a round(half an hour to an hour or more) and every so often for the heck of it year round. also during the hunting season i wax it if i get my bow wet in the rain or snow, after i've cleaned the bow off and it's dry... i've never had any problems with this system, just keep an eye on your string you can tell when it needs it

I do not believe you want to use the leather pad to apply the wax. You really do not need to heat the string that much that WILL compromise the integrity of the strands. The heat and pressure from your fingers is adequate.

as for waxing the serving I have never done that just the strands.

I know the new OCTANE strings are desigend to reduce the amount of fussing due to the gore in the string maybe you may think of replacing your string down the road with the new octane stuff.

wax the string on a regular basis as your owners manual probably states.

    good luck.

Do NOT use that leather tab, you don't want to heat the strings. 90% of newer strings are made from 452x type materials, and the fibers will fray when rubbed. Your fingers will do plenty and will work perfectly, and your string will last a LOT longer than if you heat it up with a piece of leather.

Don't wax anything that's served. I suppose it couldn't hurt, other than attracting dirt to the served section and where it touches the cam........but it's certainly isn't going to help anything either.

The guys at the bow shop I go to said "DO NOT WAX SERVING!" I guess if you wax the serving it could collect particals of dirt and sand, then work its way into your string (around the cams, mostly) and wear out the strands of string. Soooo, I'm not waxing serving.

I use Scorpion Veneom wax on my string and cables from end to end. The string fibers dont stop rubbing against each other just because the string is served. Where the serving wraps around the cam is extremely stressful on the fibers and serving material thats why I always keep it cleaned and lubed. I would not use regular wax(to tacky) but the liquid venom wax works great. As the others have said dont use the leather pad it will only damage the string.
