So, Is there such a thing as over waxing your bow string? I wax after every outing. Is this over kill? I'm thinking a tube of String Wax is cheaper then new strings. Thanks for the help! God Bless! <>< Sean
I believe I have read on this site some traditional hunters argue that waxing could (or does) affect their tuning and therefore don't do it. They would rather buy new strings. If you are shooting a compound I don't think you could over-wax your strings IMO.
My personal opinion is depends on how much wax buildup you have. If you are gunking it up & wax is building in the cable slide & stuff, you probably have too much. Usually what I do is after a really good waxing, I'll take some floss, wrap once around the string & skim off any excess buildup.
Ouch! Now you appealed to a very "sensitive" subject. Leave the "Brazilian wax" out of this paralel comparison of your bow's need. (A braziian's opinion! :D)
Well I figured if I had a catchy title people would look and help out...didn't mean to offend anybody.:D
In a nutshell........... Yes. You can over wax a string.... I've seen it done. The string literally had a coating similar to a heavily insulated electrical wire. WAY too much wax. I wax my string when it looks like it needs it. Starting to fray, look dry etc. Then I rub some wax on and vigorously rub it in with my fingers until it looks the the string is recharged. Just use common sense.
Oh not offended at all, just thought you got your attention, at least mine! Although the co-relation of the waxes might create a picturesc association. It is all good! Be blessed brother!
