    I bought a bow.

    darton as50

I bought it for fun. I don't shoot it much. I have probably only shot it 2000 times.

I have some wax that I had the guy throw in when I bought it. the guy I bought it from died and his wife just closed the store. she did not sell the business.

I don't know how to wax or why to wax the string. not even sure if it is called the string. I am really green on bows.

What other maintenance should I be doing?

Is it bad to leave the string tight for three years now?

Wax as much of the string and cables as you are able to. You need to rub it in. The wax kind of acts like a conditioner and sealant. Will make the string last longer and not fray up. You can leave the string on the bow for 3 years but it's recommended that you change strings around 4 years or if there is signs of wear and tear.

I would recommend not waxing where the string rides in the cams. Never seen it but have heard stories of derailments due to wax chunks in cam grooves.

Another great tip I learned many years ago is to use a piece of leather, doubled over the string, the really melt the wax into the string. If your waxing right your fingers should be burning off without;)

I normaly wax my string & cabels once ever 5 or 6 sessions.. I just run the wax tube around the string then get the hair dryer onto it to melt it into the fibers then rub it in :) then wipe off any exess! once every six months I will normaly talke the bow apart to wax ALL over the string & cable mainly where it goes around the cam/wheel.

I started using Scorpion Venom last year and love the stuff. You can get it in wax or liquid form, I use the liquid form. Just roll it on the string/cables and it soaks right in. I used to use the little piece of leather trick but my strings would fray. No more fraying with this stuff.

wax every time your done shooting and you string will last forever, i only use wax made by Bohning. The importance is that it keeps the fibers in the string rom fraying because the wax conditions the string and causes the fibers to stay tight together and will cause your string to last much much longer

Make sure you wax your bow string at least every month to keep it properly protected. Don't wax the serving though on the string, just the string itself. Keeping the string on the bow doesn't hurt the string at all as long as the string is properly taken care of. Hope this helps.
