Today my son and I decided to go to our main hunting property and put in a new water hole. I had great success in the past using a kiddie pool, we removed the kiddie pool from where I originally had it because we put in a real pond in that area. So landon and I picked out what we think should be a great spot on another ridge, but this time we put it closer to the bottom and not far from the field. We set up a MonsterRaxx mineral site close to it and soon we will be putting in a fall food plot right next to it. Also I like to put a little dirt in the bottom to make it a little dirtier. It seems like the deer love the dirty water compared to the nice and clean. So stay tuned for results on phase 2.

Good idea. How do you get water to it and how often does it need refilling?

Good idea. I may just have to try one near my next mineral station. I have a natural spring, better known round these parts as a branch, that runs almost the entire length of my property, pretty much right through the middle of the main hunting area. I damed it up and dug out. its about 5' deep,10' wide and about 12'-15' long. I have thought about doing another section similar. Maybe digging it out and putting a kiddie pool in it would work great also.

The first time I put the pool in I put 5 gallons of water and never had to fill again. It was in the middle of the woods on a ridge and even with the big canopy above it stayed pretty much full. It got about half full later in the summer.

Jimmy, do you have mineral sites near your watering holes?

Is there something you can put into the water to keep mosquitoes and larva from forming in the water during these hot times of the year? We have a disease called blue tongue go threw some of my hunting ground some five years ago and i was told it was because of small watering holes ,it wiped the deer out around my place for a while.
I have two springs on my place that i made a small dam on each to keep a good water source for the deer here.

For filling up my kiddie pool watering hole I use the plastic Culligan jugs. They work great and are easy to strap onto the four wheeler.
