While messing around with my kill plot I happened to notice a low spot off to the side. It had some water laying in it so I decided to dig it out down to the clay an see if it would fill up. In hind sight maybe that wasn't the best idea, being I don't know if 1.) it'll actually hold water and 2.) be clear an clean enough for animals to drink? It's about a foot deep and 4 feet in diameter. The bottom is clay and seemed to be gettin some ground water in it when I was leavin. Waitin to see what the rain will do, what are some of you guys experiences with watering holes? I need help!

I love them, started putting them in around 10 years ago. One day in the rut I watched a little 6 pt stop chasing doe's, come into the mineral pit, then hit the water hole, then proceed to munch on some clover and then go back to chasing doe's. It was in that instant that i was completely sold on water, food and minerals! It sounds like the perfect little spot for them to get a drink. Ground water is much cleaner than you think. they will love it! I would think it would go dry long before it would ever get stagnant! you and your deer will appreciate it! A few yards away would be a great place to establish a mineral site!
