Congrats! Really wish I had better duck hunting locally, waiting on a trip or two a year is rough. Trying to talk my buddy in going to the coast after Christmas, we are already doing West Tennessee MLK weekend.
We've been dreadfully slow here. Not much hitting the fields at all, and WAY too foggy almost every weekend. Finally saw a good bunch of mallards on one of the interstate ponds...hoping they are using one of our fields. I like going after ducks.....but I really cant wait for the temps to plummet and wave after wave of geese.
They are both redheads. The red one is a drake. The other is the hen Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LOL, thanks for trying to help...kind of you. I already knew what they were, I was just being intentionally obtuse for chits and giggles. I've been around marshes, ducks, geese and waterfowl hunters since I was a pup. I live right in the middle of a pretty big waterfowl area between several rivers/watersheds. The only waterfowl I'm not familiar with are the sea ducks the guys on the coasts get into. I've never been big into it myself but I can see what others obsess about in it for sure. I just think it would be faster and easier to stand in a cold shower and tear up hundred dollar bills to get the same experience, than to get into the sport, lol.
All I read was that your are inviting all of your fellow BH.com members who love to hunt waterfowl to come and shoot up all your birds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey man, come on down. There are tons of great places here that are public. There's one on 69hwy about 12 miles on my west and then there's Four Rivers conservation area about 18 miles on my east. Then there's probably a few thousand acres of private WRP water we've built for people around here though I wouldn't bet on getting permission on many of those, lol.
We should try and plan a trip sometime and all get together. It could be really fun. I'm in the same boat as Mike. I shot my first bird the other day and I'm hooked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My husband and a buddy are going on a sea duck hunt near Cape Cod next weekend. Sounds like a good time (and not too badly priced).
Sorry that was blurry. Basically the aerial survey from yesterday shows a whopping 53000 ducks TOTAL for all of Central and Southern Illinois.
No way that's right. Ky does aerial surveys to and there has been times I could take them and show them more ducks than what thier survey says. That or they all are in central and northern MO...
The OK season has been TERRIBLE to us. I think the duck gods are angry at us for killing so many last year. Hopefully it gets better soon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Shot 5 pintail drakes between 2 groups of us yesterday. Saw a at least a couple hundred pintails with a few mallards mixed in. Would have had quite a few more except for the blind across from us calling finishing birds off of us Got to love walk-ins This is the lone pintail that was shot in my group.
i think this warm weather is gonna mess up what would otherwise be another great waterfowl season. We were in the mid 60's again yesterday. No snow, no ice. No reason for the ducks to come down.
