Kinda sucks seeing a lot y'all already shooting birds! Haha. Season doesn't open in Louisiana until November 21 and I am very impatiently waiting for it!
Higher pitched than the call I'm running now (GVCC Powerhouse) which will take a bit too get used to but I like it! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
KY is one of 3 States that allow wood ducks during the teal season.....and our season is next weekend.
We got a little bit of water in our marshes, probably enough for teal but they're basically just big puddles. I've not seen any teals flying around here since I saw that one group a long while back.
Couple new ones... Red/white/blue is a birthday gift for my cousin. Black out is mine....it's freaking sweet.
Picked up these over the weekend: http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/smssoldit/media/021_zpszht2smkh.jpg.html
I have been researching a very small parcel in the middle of nowhere which is very close to a waterfowl public hunting place (maybe 20,000+ acres?), less than a mile. A nature non profit organization has been buying up a lot of the small parcels and it is also very close to forest preserves. Everything seems good about this parcel except for the size of it. It is only about 2 acres. Mature tree lines on two sides of it. My question is: Is it too small to adapt for doves and waterfowl or if you planted some stuff and dug a small pond do you think it could work? Have you hunted small parcels like this? Waste of time? Thoughts?
I have only hunted something this small a time or two and it was public land right off a gravel road that got hunted plenty so it wasn't worth my time. Now if you can have something secluded, that close to such a large area of public (as long as it doesn't get pounded) I think you could have yourself a little honey hole if the vegetation and food is something they cannot get in the public area. Key to something like this is to only hunt it a day or two a week so you don't push the ducks out for good. That would be the big downfall if I were to buy something that small in my opinion. I want something I can hunt 4 or 5 days a week in one way or another. Unless you have something the public doesn't, it's going to be hard to get ducks to land in an acre pond over something in the middle of the 20k acres.
And the wait for the second leg of the waterfowl season. Oct 1st starts our early duck and second season for goose in WV... I may get out Friday for the last day of VA goose season. On a side note bow seasons starts Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Early goose is closed here. Duck/goose opens back up Saturday until October 4. Then it closes until Octorber 15th and runs until December 4 for ducks and January 2 for geese.
Little late with the pictures, but we had an exceptional early season. Between 5 of us we knocked down a total of 96 birds. 60 teal and 36 geese. I wasn't in on any of the geese, but was part of most of the teal.
First attempt at hunting a river this past weekend and we shot a two man limit of drake woodies. Unfortunately didn't get any good pictures because I was in a hurry to get home to harvest. Likely wont hunt again until after October 15th.
It was a good few weeks. Had lots of fun and my brother even shot a band. Sore shoulder, blisters from shorts under waders and all.
This mornings hunt in the hurricane... I should have brought 5 changes of clothes. We shot 10 birds between the 4 of us. 2 were banded Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
