Went out today by myself. Had some black ducks working but wouldn't finish... They weren't armed though.. So I couldn't shoot them.. However I did wack a pair of mallards. Forgot to take pics.

Went out this morning by myself and shot 2 gadwalls. I figured with the sleet and rain I would have seen way more birds. Ohwell.. My father and 3 others are headed to Texas for a week of duck hunting ... Lucky sobs

I haven't had much luck hunting in the rain most of the time unless I'm flat on the X.
What part of TX are they going? Freelance or outfitter? I know a guy that use to go down there with a group and they killed birds but I think they drank more beer than hunt. He asked me to go but I wouldn't fit in with all the beer drinking. They were freelancing on a big lake, I cant remember the name of it.

They are going on their own, been doing it for a few years. Corpus Christi is where they are hunting. Red heads and pintails mainly and then they head father out for divers. 6 bird limit and only shoot drakes. They rent a cottage for the week for 89$ a night that sleeps 4.

Are they pulling a boat? That's quite a haul from WV.
We hunted today. Shot one...birds are burnt from the past two weeks of kids out of school and everybody off work.

Duck season ended here yesterday without a bang. Everything was frozen the week before so all the ducks started roosting somewhere else. I tried hitting the river saturday morning but there was nothing going on there.
Looking forward to late season geese at this point. We have a pretty impressive setup. They're pretty smart this late though.

No real push of geese last week so we didnt make it out. This week is going to be a different story, though. Reports of quite a few heading down our way.

How about ducks, any ducks pushing down with the geese? I've heard several people say there was a ton of ducks in S WI and N IL.

I've heard northern Illinois is loaded with mallards. Haven't seen much myself, but I bet they show up this week

Wow, that was bad. Dumbazz kids. I've been seeing ignorant crap like that all during the Christmas break. Kids running ducks in boats shooting, shooting at 100 yard birds, leaving dead birds floating etc. I told my local CO about it but have yet to see him out....

The crap those kids were doing seems like it will end up self correcting. Firing a rifle.....at moving targets.....with your friends down range. What could go wrong?
