We have a few more weeks left. This weekend I'm heading to Maryland to shoot sea ducks. Pretty excited about this trip.
I went out my first ever goose hunt with my step brother and his friends last weekend. Worked 3 groups but for some reason couldnt get them to finish. Needless to say......hooked.
We have like 4 weeks left o duck season and 6 weeks of goose. Have a lot of time off the next 2 weeks hope to put a hurting on some green heads and honkers
We need a big hard nasty front to roll through north of us freezing the world solid and dumping a foot of snow and send us some new birds...bad.
Heading to Maryland tomorrow! 3 days of duck, 1 day of deer! I'm hearing of a big front coming through on Christmas. That could mean some great hunting on Christmas Eve. Also, got a new call made. This thing is nasty for sure. Been sending some out with great feedback on the sound.
I was hoping that the weather coming in would be snow.. Just going to be cold rain as of now. It still should be ok because father north will be colder and snow and that should push birds down. However most birds we see on the east coast were already blown down when buffalo NY got hammered. We are still seeing a lot of birds in out area. So hopefully with the weather not getting too cold, the birds will sit put until the next big cold front. They may be harder to decoy, but Atleast they are still there.
We've got a lot of birds around here but they are stale. I'm hearing that everywhere, same birds that's been in the area for a while and they know the game. We need something to shuffle the deck so to speak...a big front would be great. Send birds that are north of us down and send our birds on their merry way farther south. With that said I've got a few spots lined up....
Heading out tomorrow to field hunt some ducks and if they don't cooperate we will jump some of the creek.
Man these birds are stale. We shot 11 but it took almost all day to do it. A lot of ducks around but they sure know how the game is played.
Pulled a fast one on 'em today. I've noticed that ducks are moving better in the afternoons once everybody has left so today I left the house at about 1:30 was set up by 2:30 and me and my son had 9 dead by 4pm. Never heard another shot or saw another hunter.
7 mallards and 1 black duck today. We had a group of gadwalls come in.. They circled a few time then went to commit and a hawk or falcon swooped in and tried to get one so the ducks flared off before we could get a shot.
I'll be so glad when all these dang kids go back to school. Freaking sky bustin', constant hail calling, duck running, face painting, boat ramp clogging morons.
My little (19 yo) step brother is the one who got me into waterfowl. He's on break right now and the group that he takes me out with is the exact opposite of that. We only shoot at finishing birds. I know what you mean though, and they do paint their faces lol. I will be going out sometime this week as the Canadas are just about here and the snows are here in abundance (although we dont have a setup for them). Hopefully I can post up some pics later this week.
Its not the kids fault really, they never had anyone teach them the right way to do it. It does get old though. Before someone suggest that I take them out and show them how it should be done, been there done that. You know what happens? You go back to the spot that you took them to and there they sit. Kudos to you and your bunch for doing it right!
We got one or two this morning. It's the first day ive went since before Christmas vacation. Heck of a welcome back.
