Slaughtered them today. Me and 2 buddies went out on the river and setup for the flights of geese returning from thier morning feed. Setup around 10:30 and done by 2:30... one hell of a day.. thank you waterfowl gods....
Holy crap you're still hunting dark geese. How long does your season last? Some kind of nuisance season I guess? Congrats on a good hunt.
Wv closes Jan 31. VA closes mid Feb depending on area and MD closes mar 10th... we are going to make one last go at it saturday... its just a ling season here in march... i can't complain... everything was frozen but we had 3 warm days early this week with rain and then it turned cold last night and we got hit with 10 inches of snow today. With temps in single digits tonight and friday. I probably seen over 500 geese today
Not sure if we will make it out tomorrow for one last hunt... After the rain and snow this week, the river has flooded... It crested early this a.m and has begun to drop but is still well above the norm.. heading out in the a.m to scout and see if i cant find birds or any islands above water
Here's a couple of pictures from the hunt on Thursday Walking out to dunk the decoys to remove snow. . Me in the back driven trying to avoid icebergs
That's it for me this season boys.... Bird species shot: Mallard Black ducks Mallard/black duck hybrid Blue and green wing teal Gadwall Gadwall/mallard hybrid Widgeon Northern shovler Buffel head Wood duck Hooded merganser Common merganser Canada goose - resident and migratory Think that's it.. it was a great season. Meet a new group of guys to hunt with and share spots.. hunted waterfowl in 3 states. 2 new birds to check off my list.. 6 months to go until next season. Let the countdown begin...
Been counting down about a week after season went out. Got any pics of the gadwall/mallard cross? That's going on the wall right? I've shot 2-3 mallard/black cross and a few years ago a buddy shot a mallard/pintail cross but I've never seen a gadwall/mallard cross.
I'll have to see if i can get the pictures off my iPhone that's broke... was going to mount it but it was shot up pretty bad
Ok.. i was wrong... today is my last day hunting... rainy ...windy... river a little flooded... sure.. why not race out after work to go on the last day of the season... we had a flight of 12 or so come in 5 minutes before game over.. they circled 1 time and came right in.. i dumped one on my first shot and my gun decided to double feed so i could get on another and the other 3 guys put 2 birds down.... waiting on pics to be sent...
Our rivers are a lot flooded....and full of birds. I'd love to be out in it guarding a little flooded timber hole....
