I keep trying to talk the one guy I hunt with on a regular basis to get one for his pond on his farm.. They expensive? To run?
I'm not sure of the expense on the electric bill... He has a shop and a hunting lodge on site which already had electricity. The other we run a honda benny to operate, only run it for 2 days before we decide to hunt. It sits right on the river and doesn't take long for ducks to find it. Short answer, IDK. lol
Down. Everybody I've talked to in my area says they've lost birds but 40 miles west of me they say they still have good numbers. My brother in TN straight south of me says they don't have birds either. But it could be area, what part of TN are you going? Reelfoot could be loaded. I'm with you on the ice, when the world freezes the birds all go to big water. Even you guys that have ice eaters or run wells to keep water open, when you shoot your holes the birds have no where else to go but big water. I love the ice!
They're not expensive to run, just the initial cost is tough, especially if you also have to buy a generator to run it.
Nice man.. That on public or private land? Not seeing very many ducks around so we are going to head to the river tomorrow for geese and dovers
All we hunt is public. I dont have any private duck places to hunt besides a creek or two for woodys. I ran up our river yesterday an seen a ton of divers. I'll try an go smack them one time before season ends next weekend.
Nice. My father did some scouting today. Seeing big numbers of geese on the river and lots of mergansers and buff head. Should be some fun shooting
Well lots of ducks today, only killed 8 and 1 speck. Had some help with people around us pass shooting while we were working birds. Also lots of ice, but we had an open hole. Back at it again tomorrow.
Went to the river today. 7 geese and 1 mallard. We are a little rusty on shooting divers. Didn't hit a single 1... Ran out of ammo. 2 geese sailed down to far for the dogs to retrieve, so our buddy's got them that were hunting on the lower island
They limited out on red heads every day(5days) between the 4 of them they got a dozen pintails and and a dozen or so buffle heads I think... So.. Like 56 birds
Its been my experience that this time of year it takes something major to move birds that are north of us(it may be different where you are). They've held out this long and its about time to start heading back to the breeding grounds and they really don't want to go any farther south than they are.If anything this time of year we'll see birds coming back up with a big warm up and south winds like we've had the past few days. I haven't been able to get out due to work but reports from a few buddies is that we've picked up birds. Guys with flooded corn fields that have been iced over have been pounding the snot out of them since they have opened up.
We shall see. Not sure if I'm going out or not tomorrow.. May wait for the weekend. This time of the year is the best for us around here with the mild winter. If it's been a harsh winter with heavy cold in late October and November then it's usually going to be a slow season.
I haven't kept up with this thread but here's a picture of the swan I killed yesterday and a 4 man limit of woodies from that morning. Check out our page on instagram- East Coast Waterfowl - follow to keep up with giveaways, shoutouts, etc... 2013 swan
3 came in Sunday morning and landed with the geese that were roosted up. They're not legal here in IN either.
Killed 2 mallards, 2 blue bill, 1 bufflehead, and a goose yesterday. Sunday is the last day for us. Hopefully we bust them this weekend.
