Hey guys! I have a few properties where I am dealing with a ongoing water hemp battle. For these properties I have been planting Enlist soybeans or Liberty corn and then spraying out the water hemp with glufosinate and AMS in hopes to transition back to traditional food plot species and blends. Just seeing what everyone else has done so far to battle glypho-resistant weeds such as water hemp or mares tail.
Have you tried Pasture Pro? I will dig out my bottle in the garage and check but it kills stuff round up will not touch but will not kill beneficial plants and safe to graze in 24 hours. I did a little research and yes Pasture pro will take it out in about 2 weeks. I use it for creeping charley.
That stuff is Glyphosate resistant. Best deal I've found is to mow the weeds in food plot down before tillage, then hit with a Glyphosate 2-4D mixture. Give it a few days to burn down, then till and plant. I typically plant Glyphosate resistant beans, so soon as beans are 3-4" tall and small weeds have popped up, hit with Glyphosate. Gly will work on Water Hemp when it's real small. If you get enough moisture, beans fill in and canopy over the exposed soil and most of your weed troubles are over with. If it's dry, you may have to make a second pass with Glyphosate when beans are a bit taller.
