OK, so question about water filters. At the cabin our water is pretty good. No odor and color is good once it has ran for a bit. But the kids and wife complain it has a bit of a taste to it they don't like. There already is a filter to catch sediment right after the well tank. It catches some stuff but not alot. We already used the carbon tank things that you fill up and it slowly runs through the carbon filter like this: it helps but they still don't like it. What are my options? I think I would prefer something in line but I'm not sure to be honest. I thought about reverse Osmosis. The problem I see with that is the water would sit in the tank for a few weeks at a time when we are not there and get stagnant. And they don't make water fast enough to just turn it on when we get there.
You could just run the RO system out if you guys had been gone for week and let it refill? Or you can grow a pair tell them women that they will drink it and keep their mouths shut .....
Yeah, a RO tank isn't very large and they all have drain valves on them. Wouldn't take long to drain out at the end of the weekend. They're easy to install and low cost. That's the route I would go.
We use bottled gallon spring jugs of water now for them. They are like $1 per gallon. It is reasonable. Its probably the hauling of the water I hate more than anything. Having to go get it and take all those jugs. Doesn't the RO system take like overnight or even 24 hours to get filled? While I"m sure you could drain it it would suck not to have drinking water the first 12-24 hours while up there when you are only up there for a weekend. Or am I off base on that?
Okay thanks. Guess my perception of RO only making a trickle of water is a bit off. Any particular units you would suggest?
iSpring received solid reviews when I was researching. I went with their 75GPD/5 Stage system. Very pleased so far (it's been about 8 months). This is the one I went with.
Yep, check reviews and warranties. Also make sure their filters are not exclusive to them ....replacement filters are much cheaper that way
They're so used to drinking chlorinated city water that they don't like well water from the north country?
I'd be more concerned with them drinking chlorine than whether or not they like the taste of pure water coming from the ground up north.
I'm trying to deal with reality here. That is all fine and good and I would rather have that water too. But it is what it is.
We have a filter on the Fridge where we get our drinking water. I have no idea if it removes chlorine.
