Yes it is Dan commonly called the "Barn" Owl. Kind of rare in southern MN, very popular in the Popple region of Northern MN.

Actually TJ the barn and barred owl are different birds (kind of confusing names). This one's a barred owl. The barn owl lacks the stripes and is more uniformly light brown in color. It's the barred owl call that we use for turkey locating. You'd think they could come up with more distinct sounding names wouldn't ya?

That's a beautiful photograph! I think it's amazing how mother nature provides such great camo for most animals. That owl blends in nicely.

I've had a little owl land beside me before... he flew off when I moved to get down though...

My favorite are Red-tailed hawks... I love to watch them... but it pisses me off when the crows gang up on them.

The Boreal Owl has very similar coloring to the barred and is only found in the NE corner of the state. Maybe thats your bird.

That is an amazing pic. Owls are at the top of my list of favorite animals.. If I ever get another tattoo it will be a great horned owl or barred owl. Thanks for sharing.

On tuesday evening I had 2 different fox squirrels attempt to jump onto my legs thinking I was part of the tree. I moved my arm as the 2nd one got ready to leap and he flung backwards in terror, it was very entertaining. I had no idea how big those suckers actually are, until staring at one eye-to-eye from 3 - 3.5 feet max.

    Great owl pics
