Nobody grew up going to school with problem students in their classes? I went to public school in one of the top school systems in the country and every school has their problems. Often times they were dealt with (alternative school or expulsion) before it was too much of an issue, but I don't think there are too many things you can do to change the outcome for your kids. The best thing to do is raise them right, teach them to listen to the teacher (as Duke mentioned) and hope that your kid isn't the one causing problems.

I keep think of the cartoon I've seen lately. The one where parents and student are meeting with the teacher for a progress report. Then the teacher tells them their kid is failing.

The parents from 30 years ago start chewing out the kid.
The parents of today start yelling at the teacher.

Pretty much sums it up. I know quite few frustrated teachers.

We have a school for kids that can't or won't follow the rules. If you get suspended, you go to the same school.

My wife taught school for 40 years. She saw a lot of change in that time. UNFORTUNATELY,,,,, Bush's No Child Left Behind has really screwed up any chance of separating the bad apples. My wife had an older 6th grader who would whip out his wang and proceed to whack off... right in class, right in front of someones 6th grade daughter. They were not allowed to throw him out. They had to call the office to cover their room while they took the jerk to the bathroom to finish his play time. What ccould be more sick than justifying such stuff. These parents get some special shrink to come up with some diagnosis that stated you had to do this or that.... Just sick crap. She had another that his parents convinced the school system it mentally caused her baby stress to ride the bus with other children. They gave him his own private bus to and from school every day.
