A growing number of Americans are calling for the Redskins to change their name..... they want the word "Washington" dropped due to sheer embarrassment.

But seriously folks, what are your opinions on this issue? We all grew up with the "Redskins" so it doesn't seem that weird, until you take a step back. If I were foreign and came over here I'd say "They call themselves the Washington WHAT??!!!" Is it racism that's been grandfathered in so it's OK? Not racism at all? What's your take? I think the issue is gaining so much momentum that they'll have to make a change sooner than later.

Or maybe you like PETA's brilliant idea of changing the logo to Russet potato.

Next they'll get mad for shooting a spirit moose.

I am done with people pushing their views on to others. If you don't like the name, don't support the team. It's that simple.

I have never thought that their name was racist in any way . I think that if they cave in and change their name , the idiots will just find something else that they want changed so I hope they never change it .

Being a long time fan , at some point I had started referring to them as the "Skins" but doubt they could change it to that ..... some idiot group would think they were promoting nudity :)

Anything you do or say is bound to offend someone, this paricular team name is not used in any type of derogatory way so I say get over it people.

Some people make a living finding ways to be offended. Others make a hobby of it.

We shouldn't encourage them. Leave the name alone.

I have been a REDSKINS fan since birth, I am also Native American and have never once felt offended this is "white guilt" at work again. They need to leave it alone and work on the country rather than if a team name is offensive, also native american's were the group to use this word in reference to each other. There are also many schools with a mainly native student to other ratio that have the mascot Redskin. Please stop with the PC.

I would rename the team Welfare Recipient to piss off the most people I could.

If it's a name that Native Americans embrace then case closed, keep the name.

woodman, I saw an article I believe was in the Milwaukee Urinal paper that did a poll and found out that most people of the native american heritage did NOT find the name offensive at all !!!!

Do you know that it takes only 1 persons complaint in Wisconsin against a school such as the Mukwonago Indians to start the paperwork rolling to get them to change their name ? I can see why that school is resisting all attempts, even with the threat of a fine of $1000.00 per day, to change their name. All because of 1 person.

everyone is too easily offended these days and in some cases, just want to run their mouths and get their 15 minutes. this had been brought numerous times in the past and each time shot down. same for the cleveland indians. what's next, PETA crying that team names of animals are causing undue harm to those animals?

This country has become a bunch of Politically Correct wussies. To be a Warrior you were held in high esteem with your tribe, nothing racist there. Indian's with a chief as a mascot still not racist or offensive. I could see how Redskins could be offensive in some circles but come on grow a thicker skin and move on. That thing at Mukwonago High is ridiculous I hope they never breakdown and change the name.

On a side note anything with the word political in it usually isn't correct so "Politically Correct" is an oxymoron.

Well then we are going to have to address this issue next:

"Oklahoma is based on Choctaw Indian words which translate as*red people*(okla*meaning "people" and*humma*meaning "red"). Recorded history for the name "Oklahoma" began with Spanish explorer Coronado in 1541 on his quest for the "Lost City of Gold." Oklahoma became the 46th state on November 16, 1907."

    Interesting.

I think it's all a bunch of rediculous bull****. It's no different than "them" making the Illini get rid of Chief Illiniwek. Just plain dumb.

I think it is a Bunch of BS. Leave it alone. That name is not causing loss of life or anyone to lose sleep.
I had a longtime white friend and fellow deer hunter ask me one day if he was wrong for calling me his "black friend?" I said no of course. I am a Black Man. He asked because a co-worker got offended when he answered a question and said that he had been on a date with a black woman before. He didn't say African American Woman and the black woman at work got offended. I was like WTF? Remember this everyone.....People are ASSES! Many FART out of their Mouths more than they do out of their Behinds!! So pay attention and stop listening to and talking to ASSES!!

I was wondering what I would call a black person if I was in another country. I'm pretty sure I would get a strange look after saying "African American" if I was in Germany. I work with a white guy who was born in Africa but is now an American. He calls himself African American just for shock value.

I'm very close with a native family from Ontario and I asked Irene about this a few years back. She found no disrespect in it and considered it an honor.

Yeah, I don't get it, bunch of BS. You wouldn't name a team for any type of symbol/people/etc that you held in low reguard - give me a break.

Anyone see Bob Costas and his rant the other day on this calling it "an insult, a slur"? Made my blood pressure rise about 50 pts - totally uncalled for - not sure why he/NBC felt it was their place to do a 3 minute opinion vid on it...
