Looks like not everyone at the Post is anti-hunting. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/20/AR2010112002811.html
I want to join the suburban whitetail folks...just don't have the 5 kills yet. I did the IBEP and can easily do the 20 and 30 yard quals... just need the dang kills
you dont want to throw your hat in that trust me its alot more frustrating than you see on "Deer City USA" but it is fun city deer arent intelligent as thier country brethren! alot of big deer in those lil'towns
Love it when I can get it. Hat's off to the Wash Post writer McCartney for writing that piece. He is sure to get a lot of print over that.
I've said this for a long time. If I could hunt 2-3 acre spots just right in my neighborhood, my chances of killing a 3.5+ year old buck on a consistent basis would increase 3X easily. That being said, I enjoy hunting the big woods. Those big woods have taught me a lot about hunting.
I have seen suburban deer to be very observant. They are even more observant than their big woods counterparts. I can be walking around in my backyard carrying on a loud conversation and the deer not 50 yards from me can be feeding without any issue, but the second I step foot outside my yard and crack a leaf, those deer go on bigtime alert. I have also seen bucks that are flat out keen to any change in their environments in the suburbs. You cut down one little tree in their normal travel route and they are all over you.
Yeah, I like to hunt big woods too. I usually hunt the state forest in PA by my dad's cabin, but being able to hunt a small plot on a Saturday morning in between the daily chores is fun, and doesn't take up too much time.
