I have been bitten by this certain tick recently and it sucks... a lot, i have found some info for you guys to look at here ya go: And this rash of meat allergies, currently sweeping the East Coast of America, appears to have been caused by one single, little species of tick. The lone star tick (Amblyomma Americanum), which is named for the tiny white spot on its back, may look harmless, and only causes a tiny little prick on your skin – but what follows next is a complete and potentially life-long, aversion to meat. Dr. Scott Commins, the assistant professor of medicine at the University of Virginia, said the animals’ saliva trickles into the wound and causes the violent reaction – which can cause potentially deadly allergic reactions. He said: “People will eat beef and then anywhere from three to six hours later start having a reaction; anything from hives to full-blown anaphylactic shock. “And most people want to avoid having the reaction, so they try to stay away from the food that triggers it.” The lone star tick Amblyomma Americanum only causes a tiny little prick on your skin but what follows next is a complete and potentially life long aversion to meat photo The lone star tick (Amblyomma Americanum) only causes a tiny little prick on your skin, but what follows next is a complete and potentially life-long, aversion to meat He said he had seen about 400 cases, of which 90% of the patients had a history of tick bites. Studies are now being carried out to confirm that the theory and Dr. Scott Commins added: “It’s hard to prove – We’re still searching for the mechanism.” Dr. Scott Commins plans to research into the effects of the tick saliva on the human body’s natural antibodies for alpha-gel, which is contained in red meat, lamb and pork. He said the antibodies in the blood rise after lone star tick bites – and hopefully experiments will prove this is the mechanisms causing the allergies. Allergies usually first appear in children and rarely start in adults. The most common allergies include peanuts and pet hair. But for adults who have been meat-eaters all their lives, suddenly developing this allergy could be difficult.
Great...... See.... Instead of all of us hatin' on Wolves, Yotes, etc. We need to wage an all out war on these little suckers. They're far worse than just about anything IMO.
hahaha yeah youve got a point... i kinda want everyone to see this cause it really sucks not being able to the stuff im used to:/
Great! Ok, the answer is obvious, we just need a company to develop a bug repelling (e.g. Mosquitos, ticks, chiggers, etc) line of lures and scent eliminating products. 'How hard can that be' ;-) Cheers!
I use deep woods off in the spring and summer when i go out. In the fall I'm wrapped up tight. But that would be gray if they could come out with a earth scent repellent for us Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
Found one of these on me today after hanging stands. Do they all cause the allergy or just some of them? It was just crawling on me when I got home but it could have bit me and moved.
THanks for the info, I got bitten by a tick last year and a weird rash on my arm. I now use the scentless tick repellant.
Colton I hate to hear that. My experiences have thanfully not been so bad. In my job I am in the woods all the time, so it follows that I get bit by A LOT of ticks, even with the liberall use of bug spray, many of which are lone star ticks, and thankfully Iv never had more than the localized itching generally associated with ticks. Please keep us updated on this and I hope you get better
You're fine. They don't bite and move, they bite and stay sucking blood for as long as they can. Just make sure you don't have any of his buddies on your scalp or other hidden areas.
I'll bet the anti hunters love these suckers it hurts us, and we can't eat the "poor critters" anymorr
Sweet, I was loaded in those yesterday one white spot dead center on the back... didn't get bit though i hate ticks
