i am looking for my first compound bow. i have shot a recurve since before i started school, and i still will, but i also want to buy a compound. I don't want to buy a bottom of the line bow, i don't mind spending a little money to get something that is going to perform and will last. I want something that is 60-70lbs. my knowledge of compound bows is almost 0% i have shot others bows maybe a couple hundred times total. should i buy a brand new bow, or find one that's maybe a year or two old.
My advice is if you do decide to buy something used, be sure to shoot it and look over it real good. You want to make sure there is no damage to the bow. Also I would suggest, before you buy used, that you go to an archery store and shoot as many different bows as you can so that you can get a feel for what feels good in YOUR hand.
^^^^Phillip gives you great advice, above. Are you going to shoot with a mechanical release....or still shoot fingers?
There are a lot of good bows shoot every model you can get your hands on. Shoot them long enough that one just stands out. It is always best to let the bow choose you Some top bows to look at IMO are Hoyt, Maitland (an up & comer) Mathews, BowTech, don't overlook Diamond, Reflex, or Bear. They may be a slight step down but still have some very nice offerings. Dan
as much as i hate to agree with Dan. he is right. shoot as many bows as possible. find something that feels good in your hand. then look around for a good price. this forum and others have classified sections which offer new and used bows as well as looking on ebay or just going to a pro shop.
Bingo! You'll find something that "feels" better than the rest. There are a bunch of nice used ones out there, but it could be harder to find one set up for you to shoot. Mission bows are good to check out too. Good luck, and Welcome to the site!
