    2.4mi. swim
    112mi. bike
    26.2mi, run (Marathon)

MULTIPLE Ironman team - ****/Rick........TEAM HOYT

They're running the Boston Marathon, next weekend......................................for the 30th time.

Rick asked his dad, when he was in HS.....if he'd run a 5mi. race with him. They finished next to last...........................but Rick was hooked.

    Simply unbelievable - this story.

They could place last every time, yet will always be winners.

The doctors said that Rick would be in a vegetative state for life, guess sometimes things turn out for the better;)

Doctors told his parents that Rick would live in a vegetative state, but his parents, with the help of Tufts University engineers, recognized that his sense of humor indicated intelligence. At the age of 12, Rick was able to learn how to use a special computer to communicate using movements from his head. The first words he typed were, "Go Bruins!", and the family learned he was a sports fan. They entered their first race in 1977, a five-mile benefit run for an injured lacrosse player who was a schoolmate of Rick's.
**** is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard. Rick earned a college degree from Boston University in special education, and now works at Boston College. They continue to compete in races, and are also motivational speakers.

As of September 2009, Team Hoyt had participated in a total of 1009 events, including 234 Triathlons (six of which were Ironman competitions), 21 Duathlons, and 67 Marathons, including 27 Boston Marathons.[1] They have also biked and run across the USA, in 1992 — a 3,735 mile journey that took them 45 days.

Beyond amazing, thanks for posting GMMAT.

If you can watch that without getting choked up......you don't have a pulse. I've watched it multiple times, already.

    Bruce nailed it.

Seen that quite awhile back. Amazing to say the least. Character is something you can build throughout your life. Even if you never had any you can always start anew. That fathers character, courage, and love for his son is something every one of us can learn from. Can you imagine a world full of men like that?

Probably one of my favorite video's/stories...I have been periodically pulling that up for years...so much emotion every time I watch that.

    What a Dad...and what a Man!

Here is how I discovered this story originally - SI article by Rick Reilly:
