It's a good place for folks who don't want to spend $400 on camo. Got bib over-alls and a warm hooded coat last year, all for under $60. It's Realtree Camo, too, not that 1970's army pattern. It's not Scent Blocker or anything, but my spray sticks to it just fine.
I try to avoid shopping at big stores like Wal-Mart or Target. Gander I will shop at occasionally due to not really having a good sports store nearby. But, I prefer to support the local stores whenever possible as service is top notch most places compared to box stores. Though, I will admit prices are difficult to beat when clearances are going on.
Around here you have to get while the getting is good really. Around mid October the bow stuff is junk and its just things that nobody wants or was last season at least. They usually keep the bags of corn, scents, calls, soaps and attractants pretty stocked until around mid Dec. After that as far as clothing goes if you are not a 3xl or a small you wont find anything. Its still nice to know that if you need something when the shops are closed they have some of the things you may need.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big union guy or anything like that, although that's fine if you are. I just know personally of two people who were friends of mine, who were salary, were let go after almost 20yrs of service. They had reached the top of their pay scale and were just let go for no other reason. I also know, that at least in our area, employees are never allowed to work 40 hours so that they are not eligible for benefits. These labor practices take place regularly at the retail strores in my area. There is also a Walmart distribution center where I live, that several of my relatives work for, that don't seem to operate this way. Blessings......Pastorjim
To be honest, that happens in corporate America frequently. Having worked for Sam's Club many years ago, I can say that what I've seen and experience along with those whom I know there is no difference between the two. My wife works for Wal-Mart currently and it's a better employment situation than the one she was in before. But, I would rather have "at will" employment than unions.
Walmart is going to be revamping a bunch of stores soon if Im not mistaken, anywhere from a few hundred to possibly a few thousand, with guns, bows, and all kinds of hunting gear, and fishing goodies. I was contacted by some ANB corporate people working on this project for Walmart a few months ago, its still in somewhat of the concept stages and will be ongoing for several years, but they have already begun to add guns and hunting gear to some stores. I think its great just from a standpoint of there are Walmarts everywhere which makes it very convenient for allot of hunters that dont shop on the internet, or dont have Cabelas or Bass close by, to be able to purchase more hunting items locally. I think they realized the hunting industry isnt going anywhere and has been fairly stable in hunting and fishing license sales accross the US over the years indicating that market is solid from a sales perspective. The number of hunters acrross the country that visit Walmart stores annually would probably suprise allot of you. Love them or hate them, they have around 4,000 stores in the US, and 8,000 worldwide which provides allot of jobs and income to some of our own family and friends, Walmart is Arkansas hidden treasure and one of the worlds most succesful businesses.
Gotcha. Didn't take any offense to it or anything, I was just curious as I'm a salaried manager for Wal-mart. Each store runs as an individual business to an extent so how many hours associates get can vary store to store. It all depends on sales! You are correct. We've had crews coming into our stores and evaluating our layouts in order to see where they will be able to fit guns. They took guns out of many stores several years ago, and they are looking to bring them back now.
I love wal mart and NOBODY beats their price on steel shot shotgun shells. wal mart always seems to roll back prices
News Flash from Pontiac Wal Mart........ Racewayking has arrived and has bought up everything in the bow department and in the towel department. He was caught writing on his towels in the parking lot "My crying towels for October", "My crying towels for when Dawg smokes me this year!", "Crying towels for November", and "My crying towels to wipe up my last tears of the year!"
I love their bow hunting magazine selection. They always have two or three I can buy. First place I go.
