Hey guys, I’m wanting to do a pedestal mount on my buck and due to current space, it’ll probably be a wall pedestal. However, I’m not sure which form and if I want it plain or with a fencepost, driftwood, etc. I have a really old, weathered public hunting sign I found buried under some leaves in a downfall that I thought might be neat to incorporate if I went that route since he was a public land buck. If you have a pedestal mount, post a pic and if you know the form, post that as well. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do some research on McKenzie 6900 wall pedestals. I love an offset shoulder and feel the 6900 is the most anatomically correct mount out there right now with that offset shoulder. Unfortunately because it's such a new form (introduced in 2016), there aren't a lot of quality pics floating around on the internet. They are very similar though anatomically to the other 6900 forms with a bit more head turn. The face and brisket though are very similar. I've got 2 others on the regular 6900 form, and my droptine buck from last year is being mounted on the new wall pedestal option. I should have it back really soon, as soon as I get it I'll post some pics up.
This mount can hang on the wall or mount on the pedestal. Correct me, but I think it is a Coombs form? Sent from my SM-N900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'm not super familiar with Coombs forms but the facial construction and wide bridge of the nose looks like a Meder form to me.
These pictures just made me glad I went with the pedestal mount. Mine is getting done on the 6900 form. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I was going to do the 6900 actually but the size of the buck really had us limited to options. The taxidermist that I trust recommended the 8800 I believe for what I wanted and it came in up to a 25” neck I believe. That was a tentative choice. They’re going to get him measured today and call me to go over my options. I wanted something that I could start off with a wall pedestal and then put it on a table pedestal. They showed me the mount/bracket I would need to do that as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank You! This guy does phenomenal work! Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
If you can swing it to get a floor pedestal with the ability to hang on the wall, I'd go that route. You never know when your living situation may change and then you'll be ready for anything Mine can go either way, glad the taxi talked me into that..
That’s the plan. We are going to build our own stand as another special project Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have two pedestal mounts and my biggest will be semi sneak offset! The only thing with pedestal be careful since a little front heavy and might try to spin on wall.
An offset mount will do this too if you aren't careful. True story.......... My 2nd 2014 buck was done on a custom 6900 offset semi sneak form. Brought him home, had a couple glasses of good bourbon that night because wifey and kids were out of town. Decided after about one glass too many that it was time to hang him on the wall. Got my nail anchored in the stud in the perfect spot, hung him up on it, took a few steps back to admire my work.............and in slow motion the mount spun around on the nail and crashed into the floor breaking the right G2 off. Turns out the mounting plate on the back of the form had 3 slots on it to get it balanced just right, and I hung it in the wrong slot, with the offset form there was too much weight on one side causing it to be a bit too far off balance. In case you were wondering, Platinum Fletch Tite will fix broken antlers nearly as good as new.
My taxidermist uses two mounting plates. One 6 inches above the other to prevent this from happening.
