    Walmart has ruined more small towns than I can count. They are horrible to their employees, I know as my father was coerced into working late off the clock and never being reimbursed. Walmart is a Cesspool and you should feel dirty after walking in knowing the Walton family is worth Billions while many of their employees struggle to afford groceries. Hell the Waltons only donated 5k to the disability fund set up for workers yet the company so strongly persuades workers to contribute to the fund. Watch the movie "Walmart- The high cost of low price".

    Walmart will be unionized though it would be a benefit, and will pave the way for relaxed Union Regulations to organize. Walmart is evil :evil:

    Walmart is like the town tramp, everyone has abused it but most don't brag about doing so!

    This ain't for this thread, but as a business major, and one that has done quite a bit of research into the subject, I still have to disagree.

    Lets go buy all the stuff they got on the shelves, it is on sale you know!

    Since this has turned into the bash Wal-Mart thread:

    Yep you could say that Wal Mart is all that is bad in the world, but this is how I see it;
    1. First, yes they do not give much if anything in the way of benefits, but that is why they are called BENEFITS. It is extra and NOT something that is required and there are hundreds of thousands of workers out there that do not get health care from their employer, are there any guys here or guys that you know that do not get health insurance. BENEFITS are not a right. Period.
    2. Second, The people that they employ are in the millions, however there are a great number of them that might not be able to work at many other jobs, For example, that kind older gentleman that you are so kind to on your way in, they are there earning money to help with health care costs that were not covered at their job of the previous 60 years, and now you want Wal Mart to carry that burden? Just a reminder, the auto industry is crippled by health care and benefits. My point is also that if Wal Mart were to be forced into benefits for the employees, they would hire fewer employees, and who do you think would go first, you got it, gramps at the door.
    3. There are other people that work there that have no experience and this is their first job, or there are those that are just there for a few extra bucks.
    4. The goods they sell as some have said are “made in China” and somehow that is a problem, but driving a truck that is made up of thousands of parts “made in China” is somehow OK???
    5. Those goods they sell are the same ones that millions upon millions of Americans purchase daily, why is that, if they are such a terrible company. I will tell you why, because there are millions of Americans that do not earn more than 15 bucks an hour. These millions of families get the things they need from, you guessed it, Wal Mart.
    Wal-Mart is nothing more than a very successful company. They are successful because they give the consumer what they need at a price they can afford.

    I am a business major as well. There was a time in small town America where stores purchased through a Co-op and the employees knew you by name, then the Devil came and ran all the small businesses out of town. Many towns gave tax concessions and money and land to bring in the Devil only to watch most of their tax base rot to hell. There was a company that made cardboard for the sole purpose of deodorant packaging and they went out of business because the devil wanted packaging that didn't have "Waste". Companies pinched to offer products and nearly no profit because of Walmarts buying power. As for the claims of who will hire these workers??? For god's sake, Target, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, 7-Elevens and all the other retail stores that would thrive if everything wasn't bastardized in one location.
    I have a neighbor that has dozens of Walmart's she has to visit because her company sells product through their stores. She tells stories that would make your head spin. Truth be told many do not care that what Walmart does as long as they get a cheap price for what they need, sad thing is one day they will wake up and forget about the specialty stores and retail fronts that carried quality products sold with knowledgeable employees that greet you by name;)

    As interesting as this debate is, there is one thing that remains true. They are the worlds largest retailer, and the employ 1.3 million people. They sell products to the consumer at prices that are affordable. May families in America could not afford to shop at the local grocery store, I know that in my current situation, my wife and I NEED those low prices. Also, the debate over the employees such as the elderly, go to Target, Gas Stations, Grocery stores, etc... and tell me how many workers over the age of 65 you see. I have been to target and there are NONE there are a bunch of young men and women. And they, and this may hurt, out perform the elderly workers in other stores. Yes there is some loss of small business due to Wal-Mart AND Home Depot, Lowes, even Target, Menards and Best Buy, and any other larger box store chain. The folks that work in these stores complain too, we just don't hear it because Wal-Mart is the largest and the biggest target. You are correct many do not care because Wa-Mart provides inexpensive things, AND they are the same things that you get at the stores I mentioned before.

    Truth is consumers drive demand, that is what moves the economy, as Milton Freedman called it, "the invisible hand". If workers truly did not want to work there and they quit, AND people felt strongly enough to stop purchasing from them, they would disappear. But as we both know that will not happen. People like War-Mart, and they provide jobs to those that may not find one otherwise.

    I'm not trying to get Involved In this big debate either but I've got to say one thing contradicting what was said above. The Walmart here In my home town blows away the competition with there prices on groceries. It's not even close. This Is real life.;) It's sad that the local stores are suffering because of It but It's becoming that way with everything these days. If your not big, your In trouble. I know, I'm a business owner and my days are limited because of It. Maybe It's different where you are Dan. If so, that's good!
