I write letters to the F&W Board every year making these suggestions. I need to start going to hearings.
This is like a NY forum. All I hear is excuses to keep doing the same things and producing the same results. Enjoy
well they aren't really excuses to me they are situations that are real and true in the state of VT? I am not sitting here crying about it just discussing problems we face. I absolutely love where I hunt and the work that it takes to try and kill a nice buck. I'm not complaining, it may seem that way, but I take what I am given and make the most out of it, enjoying every second. its tough no doubt but love that I get to hunt the green mountain state where I grew up, one day i'll get out west to the land of the giants. thanks for the input though.
I hunt 2 properties 150 miles apart, one a 120 is a shooter the other 100. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
It's all relative to your local population. Hunters shooting 2.5 yo deer happens everywhere. I am fortunate enough to hunt multiple private properties in an area that grows decent deer and with good population. However, none of my properties are big enough to be self contained. We grow our share of 140"+ deer and would have more if huntes as an aggregate would impose more self discipline. But that goes against human nature. I don't get why some people shoot what they do but as I have gotten older, I quit worrying about it. Maybe they have limited hunting opportunities, maybe they've not killed many deer, etc. etc. Whatever the case, they don't have to answer to anyone but the Game Warden. A few years ago I was bowhunting during our rifle season and had a decent what looked like a 3.5yo in a perfect broadside opportunity inside 20 yards. Not saying i wouldn't have botched it but pretty high odds were in my favor. A split second decision said pass, let him grow....I was about 150-200 yards from our property line. 10 minutes later I hear "Kaboom" from a rifle. Yep, my neighbor shot him. I congratulated him and never told him about my encounter. He was happy so why make him feel anything less. It took me a few years to get there but I now subscribe to the Mantra "shoot whatever makes you happy....before someone else does"....lol Good luck this season
