While I agree the mindset of it has to be the lesser of two evils is why a third party won't work.... We also must keep in mind, it isn't that far from a fact either. Third Party candidates are a Class AA High school team playing against the Miami Heat. Short of a few assassinations, they aren't winning.....nor will they in the next decade or two. I think we should work harder within the parties to offer better running candidates until the system itself changes (if ever). Electoral College is stupid. While I don't quite now if straight popular vote is better, dividing by states and with such huge discrepancies in their power isn't quite fair either IMO. Maybe a county by county system?
While I the odds of seeing a legit third party option in my lifetime are quite low, I do believe we will be closer. Especially if both sides keep ****ing up like they are now.
With the way our government is set up wouldn't it be more productive to start building #'s of independents in the congress and senate? Name recognition and experience would be steps in the right direction, as a third party president would be hapless against the controlling numbers either the Dem's or GOP would hold in both houses.
There was no popular vote for the office of President originally if I am not badly mistaken and our Electors decided on some pretty solid men. The popular vote... would be better titled the pandering to special interest groups vote. Guess why men raise and spend (hide and keep) billions to run for an office with a 400 K salary? If we want to do away with something, let's do away with the popular vote, especially the one that let's the votes of illegal aliens, walking dead and imbeciles count.
Except in this scenario, the two sisters are the last two people on earth... And it's either choose one or your right hand. In theory, voting third party is great (I encourage all Obama supporters to exercise that right)...in reality, it's a small protest that often allows the bigger of the two evils to prevail. I hope one day we cut it down to one term limits and eliminate the retirement packages for these politicians. Cut out the incentive for a lot of corruption and self service in offices.
I would vote for T. Boone... Or for Norman. I think we need an old school, conservative that won't be pushed around by lobbyists an big money, unfortunately that will never happen.
Here is a good article about the electoral college. http://people.howstuffworks.com/question4721.htm The theory of your vote counts, it always don't. I don't trust system that doesn't let the people speak and make the decisions. The whole system needs an overhaul, from term limits for all politicians to a having 3 to 4 parties for a better balance.
I agree with certain parts of both sides on this. I believe 3rd party canidates should have a better chance but at the same time I don't see it possible. American citizens choose to neglect the fact that there are more than 2 potential partys. So I believe in voting for the lesser of two evils. Untill the 3rd party canidate has a fighting chance, I don't see the worth in it.
Actually the Electoral College is why we will never have a third party candidate. However, the original posters mentality doesn't help.
