What is your opinion on vitamin supplements? Do you take them? Do you give them to your kids? What types do you take? Do you believe they help and are necessary?

I take them due to the amount of physical fitness I perform. I take either animal pak or orange triad. If you workout they are the building blocks to getting your body where you want it to be. If you eat healthy meals daily them most likely you can easily get what your body needs through food. If your body has excess minerals you will just send them down the pipe. Good for overall health in case you dont feel your body gets everything it needs to function more effeciently. It is most always rec for kids to take them while growing up and females after the age of 40.

I take a multivitamin, though recent studies seem to point to them being all but useless. I also take a Flaxseed Oil supplement and last but not least 12mg of Astaxanthin a day. After years of lifting weights, snowboarding, BMX and football growing up I couldn't imagine not having my Astaxanthin to keep my joint pain and swelling at bay.

I think they have their place if someone isn't getting enough of what they need but I think health is all about not sitting and eating clean.

The only ones I use are zinc and vitamin c. I use zinc to prevent a lot if illnesses but if I do get something I take some vitamin c and it usually clears up the next day.

If you eat a well balanced diet, the average person does not need extra vitamins. You are just creating expensive urine.

Native Americans were pretty resilient and I don't think they drank milk or took a daily multivitamins....but maybe it was the packaged twinkies they ate....dunno.

They also got their food from Mother Earth and not the local grocery store. The truth is that our food system has been diluted to yield higher crop output and many nutrients our Native American's enjoyed are no longer in the food system.

They also had life expectancies about 20-30 years less than our current population.

Maybe vitamins would have helped after all

People can certainly go overboard and waste money, but one multivitamin a day is a cheap way to
Correct for a deficiency caused by diet.

It's not the change to increase yields that caused the problems, it's the processed food laced with additives that are poison. Also over prescribed drugs that are often more dangerous than the affliction they are intended to treat.

Very arguable that their short life expectancy was mainly due to exposure and inter-tribal war, no medical care/medicines which have been mostly responsible for the increase in modern life expectancy. Compare their life expectancy to that of stone age Europeans and they were pretty similar. There were also a lot of cases of malnutrition from a lack of food.

I'm not a big fan of processed, industrialized miracle pills, there are too many chances that some day in the near future someone discovers that either some portion of the process is causing ill effects or an ingredient is....just saying.

I have taken some mulit's in the past but I generally try to get my nutritution from foods. I eat vegies and fruit pretty much daily along with meats/dairy/whole grains.

They aren't a replacement for eating healthy by any means, but a cheap simple multivitamin won't hurt anyone as long as you let your doctor know you are taking it (mainly talking about those on Coumadin)...

I eat baked fish/chicken with a combo of a few of baked or steamed squash, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, cauliflower, green bell peppers, and mushrooms every single day for dinner. Turkey sandwich w an apple and bag of raw veggies is lunch daily. Breakfast is two fried eggs or a protein shake. I still take a multivitamin. It costs me like $25 for a whole year and doesn't hurt. I realize most is pissed out without effect, but that means my diet is working. In areas it lacks, the vitamin is there to help.

The only people that crack me up are the ones who come in and stock up on like 13 different individual vitamin supplements all because of some Dr. Oz special. I've never seen someone gain as much credibility as that man with completely false or misleading claims most of the time. I'm thoroughly convinced he doesn't know how to interpret a clinical trial for the results. If a trial was performed, that means it works in his mind lol.

I take a multi, C, B-complex and some fish oil. Not sure it does anything though. I just try to eat healthy instead.

Healthy eating gets me everything I need...however if an inkling of feeling bad hits, zinc, vitamin c and d are the three I usually throw heavy into me...oh also garlic.

a few years ago my doctor told me I should be taking 6 different vitamins, so I went and bought them, took them daily and pee'd glow in the dark neon yellow. did routine blood work a few months later as a follow up and there was no improvement in any of my levels, so he said, no reason to keep taking them. I was confused, but then again this is the same doctor who prescribed me vicodin for diarrhea, to bind me up and take care of the cramps he said. I now have a new doctor.

I drink beer.......it also produces expensive urine. I'm pretty sure its also full of essential nutrients. At least, that's what I tell myself. So far, so good.

I take the Centrum multivitamin/multimineral supplement flavor burst. Almost like a skittle type coating.
