Over 200 trees blown down, power outage to over 600,000 people and a tree in my backyard. I'm forced from my home to a area hotel due in part the heat should hit 100 and no air is dangerous. The funny part was looking for my dog hiding under the bed. With my pocket knife as a chew toy or a weapon against the unknown wind demon? Hope those affected by the storm is doing well.
WRONG!!!! I just heard on the news an hour ago that 4 million people in the mid Atlantic are without power. Whicked little blow. They even made the spectators and marshals stay away from the Congressional tournament today in DC. They say it will be at least a week for many before power is restored.
My squad worked that storm last night. We had hundreds of trees down. We had to cut through nearly a mile of downed trees to get to some people that were pinned in their vehicle from a downed tree. Took myself and 3 other officers an hour to get through. We had many buildings catch on fire where officers had to go in....I saw lightning strike a home and it caught on fire. 70-80 mph winds plus massive lightning strikes.
Yeah that was my welcoming night one of vacation at my brother in laws, in Newport News. Thankfully we didnt lose power!
here's a picture of storm.... When this storm rolled in it looked like a huge tornado. Currently the power is still out in my community. The problem with living in the county and not the city. Even If I'm only about 300yds from the city the county comes last....Earlier we had a man become irate because he couldn't get a room extended for another night. So he started or tried to start a fire in the hallway to get the hotel to evacuate...... Trust me it's not that bad. Lord only knows if this was complete devastation....
It was nearly half a million in Ohio. I had 2 trees on the roof and have been living in the dark since Friday afternoon. Suddenly, work is my relief... go figure.
Just drove to my Grandparents house today to take them a generator, They live near Smith Mountain Lake ... Worst sight I saw on the way was a tree that split a house in two. Crazy for sure... we got some heavy winds and storms... but nothing too crazy like many others.
Brace yourselves boys... we just got hammered again. Winds up to 60 and 1" hail. Looks like it's losing strength as night falls though.
Hope everyone is doing OK. It's going to be a busy week at work due to the power outages. I sell parts for the equipment they use to do line work.
Hang in there guy's...we were without power for 14 days during the ice storm about 4 or 5 years ago with below frizzing temps the hole time. I had to drive over 250 miles just to find a generator in Huntsville AL. A pic. of US 62......after a lot of cutting.
I've always wondered how people made it back in the 17- to the early 1900's. With all our electrical and pneumatic pump this and that. Clearly they were made of "sterner stuff". Read a story of a ship wreck back in 1700's in Alaska and they walked back to a Canadian Border.
