Video proof an ar15 was not the weapon used at Sandy Hook

I didn't see that actual briefing so couldn't comment on when the investigators commented first in weapon descriptions. I was more arguing the supposed facts of the initial post showing that same day/night footage. Nothing other than the coroners briefing that day gave non media opinions.

I am all for gun rights as everyone has seen by now, but I'm not in the conspiracy theories and such. Nothing reported by the media the day of should be taken verbatim. The video shows, to me anyhow, what a lot of reports initially said that a shotgun was found in the trunk.

This is a hard subject to try to argue, and I've tried to choose my words tastefully. The fact of the matter we are talking about a deranged individual who carried out the unthinkable. The gun, no matter which it was did not seek him out or make his decision.

 

The availability and design of the weaponry did in fact help him to make his decision much more catastrophic. Nobody can agrue that fact.

 

That was directed towards captain conspiracy and his claim that they only said 2 pistols.

 

It is arguable. He could easily have killed just as many with a 870 pump shotgun. Who was going to stop him? The six year olds??

I don't agree with that. Have you eve seen competition shoots? Design and magazine combo has nothing whatsoever to do with manipulating a gun to its fullest potential. We weren't dealing with a competition shooter or his modified gun, but the same kind of devastation could have been done regardless of weapon type. So yes, that assumption and not fact can be argued.

Edited to add, the gun does not have to be modified to achieve faster shooting and reloads. I inadvertently left it at modified guns. A proficient shooter, which it seems his mom had let him become, can learn even a single shot firearms motions.

 

People also seem to forget that the Aurora Co, psycho rigged his apartment with explosives. He had hoped a passerby would trigger them but thankfully nobody played along.

Hell, even the national news said in one report he left his long guns in the car and just had the pistols. The anti's blew the story into never never land.

 

Accessability of semi-auto weapons with high capacity makes mass killings easier. Most psychos go with what is easy because they can do it without any outside help. That means they are far more likely to be successful. The freaks that are planning other means of mass killings by bombs etc., are far fewer and much more likely to get caught. That was my point.

Kind of hard to walk into a school with a shotgun and several hundred rounds of ammo. Probably why the shotgun was left in the trunk. It was no as efficient for his plan. It will still kill, but not as many and not nearly as quickly. It just wont.

 

What you say is true. However, remove 1 option and they will move to the next.

Couple that with the impossibility of actually removing whats already there and it won't accomplish much if anything.

Plus, a pistol is still much easier to use in these situations due to concealment and high capacity "clips" (for Christine)

What percentage of gun killings last year were done with an Assault style weapon? Of those take out drug/gang related ones (obviously still gonna happen)...? I ask because I'm very curious and doubt it'll be very many at all...

Guns are not the problem with our culture here in the US at all...to ban guns is like trying to put a bandaid on a bullet hole (pun intended). It'll look better but the damage is internal. Just my .02

*I do support stiffer background checks, make FFL transfers a must for sales from person to person (give an incentive to the dealers for doing this at a minimal fee or free), tighten up the freedom at Gun shows.

It does state a stat in #2 which I've located at snopes and some other sources as being true (some doe state a range though maxing at 8 or around 8%). Found it interesting...both sides are being naive to their thinking on assault weapons, the antis are definitely making it sound like AR's or the likes are a drastic part of gun crimes when in actuality it is barely anything in the grand scheme of things. (that is a tough statement to say because even .0001% is too much because in almost every non-gang/drug related gun killing someone lost their life that was innocent...never a good thing).

 

Carrying hundreds of rounds of shotgun ammo would not have been necessary to accomplish what this guy did. Most shotguns, after removing plug are capable of holding 6-8 shells. You get a gun vest and you can load them up anywhere from 20-40 probably depending what type. You take 00 buck and walk into a closer in room that's maybe 20x30 and doin what this guy did is not that far of s stretch. So tell me how would that have made a difference. Because had to reload? That's not difficult. The function of an AR is no different of any semi auto, fires with every trigger pull, I can get a 20 or 30 round mag for my 10/22 and shoot jus as fast as I can with my AR. ARs are no more dangerous then any other firearm besides maybe the person operating them, which is you have any firearm knowledge isn't goin to matter. It doesn't automatically turn you into a "killing machine"

 

Good point, so the 10/22 should also be illegal? Or just the high capacity mags?

It's going to get interesting for sure.

I would settle for much more stringent background checks and strong enforcement of such regs.

 

Even background checks would not have stopped the sandy hook shooting.

Education requirements imo are a must. Maybe momma doesn't have a gun accesible in her house for a mentally ill person to get hold of if she had been educated on gun safety and use. (If in fact it was her gun) hard to believe someone would need to be told this but common sense is not common.

That's part of the puzzle as well. It might be out there but have they said how the guns were stored? It is impossible to keep every gun in your home under lock and key and still be able to protect it. But having a child with known disorders should be on the responsibility of the parent to keep them out of his/her possession.

This could very well have been the case, I'm not sure. Did he kill his mom as the only way to reach the guns or did she carelessly leave them laying about readily available to him?

There's someway to make it work, maybe something to the sort of a safer safe for homes with mentally I'll residents. Just as guns cannot be blamed for killing people, parents cannot be blamed for having children with disabilities. But it is the parents obligation to protect their children both from harming themselves or harming others.

Hoping this makes sense, but not sure.

 

Yea idk what's gonna happen, I don't think a high cap mag ban is the answer. Simply because the fact of the ability to reload. There's a big emphasis on the fact these high capacity magazines are being used when really most killings are committed using firearms without high cap magazines. I even doubt there's hundreds of rounds actually being discharged, but idk haven't really payed attention. The fact of the matter is a properly motivated individual is gonna be able to kill as many as they can regardless of how many rounds the firearm holds. The guy in CO or VA Tech showed that.

 

I'm not an expert on the subject or anything but I recently watched a show on the sportsman channel that teamed up western 3 gunners against modern 3 gunners. And surprised as I was, the times were surprisingly similar on the same course. Sure these were professional shooters and all but if just shows even guns from 100 years ago can be just as deadly. Just something to think about.
