Went out to change batteries and swap memory cards, only the find out the trail camera bit the dust, apparently a month ago. It will no longer turn on. Oh well, got some pics of what appears will be a nice deer, and some other pics of what would have been a nice deer if he hadn't been injured. First, the nice one... Now, for what will be known as the freak...
that buck will look really neat when he's shed his velvet and completed his antler growth. i would shoot him just for his individuality. hope you get a new camera soon so we can see how he grows.
I'm looking for a new camera at the moment. That was a Wildgame Innovations, model N6 (about $90 at Walmart). It has a 1 year warranty, but I don't believe I registered it after purchase last September and I don't have the receipt anymore , so I'm probably SOL unless it was purchased with debit/credit card and I can get the card company to send a copy of the receipt. I tried to call the camera company a bit ago, but they're already closed, so I'll have to try tomorrow. Checking online to see if there's anything I can do to get this working again. Thing that sucks is that both of those deer have had another 5 weeks of growth on them since the last pic of each. I'd definitely like to get some more pics of them as they grow. I'll post up pics again if I find another camera. Wouldn't mind getting one that has audio when it's recording video, which was one thing this relatively cheap camera did not have. It also had problems at night. Some pics would be relatively clear, others were completely washed out and white. After reading some reviews, the camera might need moved back a little bit, but there aren't really any trees to put the camera on that are the right distance or right size for the camera mount. The camera is only about 10 feet away and 8 feet up the tree. I was looking at the DLC Covert series, but all of the Covert cameras say they only accept an 8GB mem card. The WI camera accepted up to 16GB, and I have 2 of those 16G mem cards. Guess I need to make sure I get a camera that accepts up to a 16GB card. May consider a Spypoint, as they have a bit lower price range than some of the big names.
Picked up another cheap Wildgame Innovations tonight. It's a step down from the one I previously had but hopefully it won't have the whiteout problems since it has fewer LEDs for the IR flash. Tried to set it up on a tree a bit farther away, but it wouldn't trigger where the mineral block has been, so I put it back on the same tree the other one had been on. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my screw-in steps, so the camera isn't mounted very high in the tree, which means anybody that spots it in the woods could easily take it. I bought it at Gander and they only have a 30 day return policy, so I'll go out and check the cam in 3 weeks and swap cards. Hopefully there are some good pics of deer on it by then and the camera doesn't bite the dust (and is still on the tree!)
