I have a 95 GMC Yukon and the transmission went on Sunday at 4 am leaving for a hunt.. I was pissed but now the question is do I repair it or sell it for te little money its now worth and buy a used truck.. I'm not in a very good financial position as I'm a college freshman and that takes alot of time from possible work hours but I can borrow money from family which I would hate to have to do... So what do you guys think I'm in a hole right now and need to do something asap..

It's generally always cheaper to fix, but depending on the shape the vehicle is in as to whether I traded or not.

I'd even venture to say that the increase in value of the truck from "as is" to after the repair will be at least as big as the cost of repairs itself. Point being, you likely won't lose money in fixing it, even if you do decide to trade it in later on down the road.

I had a 88 Chevy 1500 In high school/college. It was lifted and on 35's. Owned the truck for 5 years and put 2 trannys in it during that time. Those 700R4's are junk in the chevy trucks especially with any extra load such as big tires or heavy hauling. Make sure you ask for a heavy duty rebuild kit. It only cost an extra $50 - $75 but well worth it. Seemed to hold up the second time around and the guy i sold it too put it on 38's and is still driving it.

If it has a 700R4... they are weak for sure as mentioned above... We had an 85 Scottsdale that I don't know how many rebuilds we, and the next owner had done to it.
