Do you go by the "recommended" guidelines on such things as front/rear differential, or transmission flushes? Just curious !
Just about every transmission I've heard of that got "flushed" died a short time later. I just change the fluids, I don't go disturbing any built up junk unless it a total rebuild.
I keep fresh fluid in my trannies. Most people try changing fluids after they have a tranny problem and then think the fluid change killed it. It was usually on its way out already. I have only ever lost 2 trannies and both were on used vehicles where the fluid had not been maintained. I got almost 300K out of my 1990 K-Blazer, 275K out of my Toyota 4X4 and just passed 175K on wife's Element and have never had an issue. Yes... change your fluids.
I usually don't mess with transmission unless there a problem. My last truck I had everything checked out whenever I had oil changed it I didn't do that myself. It was a 1500 Dodge Ram with a 6" suspension and 3" body lift though so stuff wore out faster, like ball joints, u-joints, and stuff like that.
I "flushed" my tranny myself on my 06 Tacoma. I've heard from several sources that transmission flushes that are performed by dealers/garages ARE bad for the tranny. The pressure they put in the system breaks up a bunch of crud that otherwise was fine where it was. It all doesn't come out and eventually causes problems. The "flush" I performed basically let the system pump itself to empty the fluid and then I'd refill with the same amount that came out. Basically, a couple quarts would pump out, refill, pump out, refill, so on. I repeated this until new fluid started to pump out. But yes, change your fluids. Diffs are easy and often neglected.
I usually don't keep vehicles long enough. But I was asking because the oil changing places always hit you up for all of the "recommendations"
This is false if they are using a proper transmission machine such as a t tech....the only pressure put to these systems is from the vehicle itself....no added pressure what so ever from the machine....the lines to the machine hook to a cooler line off the radiator or directly off the trans/proportion block and as it takes the old out it puts the new in....only way to do a 100% fluid exchange....you see someone wanting to use an evac machine.....well.....in that case....run Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
