The wife planted her usual large veggie garden this year and told me I was S double O L as far as watermelons and muskmelons were concerned, so I tilled up an area near the lake and 2 weeks ago planted 30 watermelon and 30 muskmelon seeds. We've had a couple light rains since then. Today, I checked them and 50 out of the 60 seeds made it to the seedling stage. Now if I can keep the wild critters out of them until it's harvest time.

I hear ya. My watermelons are just now peaking threw the dry dusty dirt. It's been a dry one!

I jury rigged a system with a generator, sump pump, a 350 gallon water tank, and some garden house so we can water the gardens with pond water. It takes the generator 10 minutes to pump the water into the tank and everything else is gravity. Sure beats the $22 for 1000 gallons of rural water.
