No matter how big or how small .... let's see your veggie garden! Also, let's hear what you are growing...

Here is mine ...by far the biggest I have ever had .... the tractor didn't hurt :D

I wanted to put the garden in the old pool area as it gets sun all day and I needed to do something with that area anyway ... you can see it to the right...

Here is my brother Sal (slabcrappy) using his recently purchased Try Bilt Horse to square off the area and till up the ground..... that thing is a beast...

Here it is after Sal was through with it ...more rectangled than square ...lol

    Enter John Deere :D
    [IMG]

The garden is slowly ....OK, quickly getting bigger thanks to Mr. Deere...

Growing big now....the ground is so uneven as the dirt they dug up to put the pool in was under the pool deck .... just another area to conquer for Johnny boy.... diesels rock!!!

Running across the street to the farmer's pasture to scrape up some topsoil that is all composted dairy cow crap ....black gold, baby ...

BTW, never move the tractor while you have a full bucket that is all the way up .... almost tipped it over ....REAL close .... (I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the box ;) )

So I put in many bucket fulls into the bed and leveled it all of with the bucket angled down and scraping backwards.....

    BAM! Fenced and planted :) ... 28' x 42' ... just a little bigger than the pool area :D
    [IMG]

    So we are growing:

    Vine tomatoes .. Beefsteaks ...romas

    Regular cucumbers and pickling...

Hot Hungarian Peppers .. Jalapenos.. banana .. all different types of Bell Peppers

    Cauliflower .. Broccoli

    Zucchini .. summer squash

    seedless watermelon ,,, regular watermelon

So! I showed toy mine .... let's see yours!

Last year's carp holes. :p We planted tomatoes and eggplants over the carp.

Auger on the tractor was handy for this.

Not sure what we're going to do in Utah... our yard there is only a half acre. And Utah's version of soil is quite a bit different than Central IL's. :(

Sold 'em. $1 a pound. The reality is that while I sold a few hundred pounds of tomatoes and gave away/ate/fed to chickens a bunch more.... still most went to waste. :( Without a walk-in cooler to hold them, it was too much to try and pick and deliver them (to chicagoland) before they got too soft. These were not the commercial hard grocery store type tomatoes. I had this same issue with zucchini and cucumbers, they wouldn't wait around for a week between deliveries. This is one of the reasons I got the prius. Made more deliveries possible/affordable. But then driving up to Chicago multiple times each week sucked... even if I could do it cheap.

    Planting tomatoes far apart...

    tomatoes.jpg tomatoes2.jpg tomatoes1.jpg

They look stupid being planted 10 feet apart when they're little. After awhile you can barely walk between them. Carp is awesome fertilizer.

Don't any of you folks grow some herbs. I love fresh basil. It blanches and freezes really well. In the dead of winter you can have basil that looks like you just picked it fro a fine. Oregano grows awfully fast and can take over an area. Go sparingly with it. Same with chives. Sweet basil is fantastic in a home garden.

We are growing basil parsley and cilantro also in containers. So much cheaper than buying it fresh at the store.
