Is it? You have a right to bear arms. But, you cant have brass knuckles or switchblades or Tommy-guns, or grenades, or ..........you get the point. The privilege is in which arms you have the right to bear.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Wow, comparing gun laws to DUI laws or drug laws is absurd.

A gun in no way alters the state of mind as alcohol amd drugs do, good grief.

What's next limiting calibers allowed by age class?

Air rifle only until age of 18, when you reach 21 you may go up to .22 LR in rifle caliber and .380 handgun then when you reach the ripe old age of 62 ypu can get the more potent calibers. Errrr wait a second, the last 2 individuals were in their 60's.

Switchblades are now legal in IL, as long as the owner has a valid FOID card.

Murder is already illegal, so the law is already set. Someone with a mental health issue who is unable to obtain a gun legally can obtain a gun illegally. Laws do not prevent anything, they simply provide punishment and penalty. It's amazing how people throw logic out the window because they helplessly think "something needs to be done" in reaction to something that was impossible to prevent. Had it not been guns this guy could have planted pipe bombs or used fertilizer bombs or he could have driven a big truck into the crowd and killed even more. Had the guy been flagged as mentally unstable and not allowed to purchase a gun but still obtained a gun and killed those innocent people, then what? The law did nothing and the same thing resulted. A determined killer is a determined killer.

And to fletch, I'm sorry man but trying to determine what kind of gun is for "killing in numbers" when all guns are mean to shoot and kill as well as what kind of gun someone does or doesn't need is absolutely ridiculous. There have been countless stories of people, including KIDS, protecting their family from a multi person home invasion with an AR. They are very easy to learn and use. Try telling those people they shouldn't have had the right to own a gun that can hold a lot of ammo in the magazine because someone thinks banning guns that hold a lot of ammo would prevent mass murder. You can't tell me they should have had to use a slower shooting gun that holds less ammo and risk their lives by having to reload because someone else wants to use "AR style" guns for evil. Semi-auto is semi-auto, when someone uses the term "AR style" it makes my skin crawl. An AR is a pistol with a longer barrel and a shoulder stock, they all go pew pew just the same. The second we take away personal responsibility from the person and put it on the method or object used to commit evil, it's a lost argument.

I have a question for those that do own semi-auto weapons.

Why do you need a semi automatic rifle? What is your purpose for owning that weapon?

Okay, substitute bazooka or nuclear missile with switchblade and my comment still stands on its own merit. Now, try again.

Or perhaps we should look into why people are choosing to commit these acts so much more. guns for the most part haven't changed so why are people committing these acts when they didn't in the past. I keep hearing people say we have a gun violence problem, and I disagree. We have a Violence problem period.

I'd rather we figure out the Why, the how will always change.

Because if a few armed thugs want to invade my home, I want to have enough continuous firepower to put it on them for as long as possible without having to reload and risk the lives of my family. I'm a law abiding citizen, what does this have to do with it? You can't uninvent a semi-auto rifle. So take them away from law abiding citizens then only criminals will have them.

But, you can not own a grenade or make a pipe bomb legally. Again, brass knuckles are illegal in many states. Brass knuckles! So, why is a semi-automatic rifle that can hold dozens of rounds such a reach? Laws already determine what types of weapons we can and can not have. A pump shotgun with buckshot will keep me quite safe in my own home.

The "AR style" of gun was designed specifically for mass destruction. Nobody in their right mind can argue against that statement. Maybe we don't need them in civilian hands. Maybe.

I have remmington 1100 and a Browning 270 Bar. Bird hunting and deer but to be honest I have never had much connecting on the second and third shot.

How many handguns can shoot dozens of rounds into a crowd from hundreds of yards away accurately?

I am just curious as I have 0 need for them personally and would like to know why others own them. I'm not bashing anyone who does own them, no need to get fussy.

Sure, and people still use pipe bombs and brass knuckles for murder!!!! LOL THAT'S THE POINT! If banned then only criminals will have them. You guys and your gun restrictions are throwing logic out the window. At no point does a determined criminal follow the law.

What is an AR style gun. Any semi-automatic? Or only those that look like a military weapon.

The 1100 I own it because I own a 870 pump. Special field version with the english stock, I like the model so I bought the guns in pump and auto.
