I built myself a varmint caller. I got a stereo amplifier form E-bay that runs on 12V two 6V batteries wired in series for power a loud speaker from radio shack an ammo can I had laying around my iPod. It was very simple to put together. You can find calling sequences and MP3 files on the internet for varmint calls, or you can record your own. I have a bunch of "songs" that are silence in varying lengths, from 1 to 5 minutes. I string them together to allow me to put enough lead time to set up the call and get to my shooting position. I also use them to create breaks in the sequences. I edit my sequences using Garage band on my mac, or by creating play lists - I usually do a combination of both. I have about $50.00 invested in the caller, but I had some of the stuff laying around. You could easily assemble it for under $100.00
Good work! I tried doing something similar but wasn't quite satisfied with it so ended up getting a FoxPro anyways. I do use it as a back up though.
sure, I'll have to figure out the best way to post them.... I currently have 52 segments (including some 15 and 2- minute sequences) they're all MP3's, so yo should be able to use any player as the source. I need to get some more.
cool. I can zip them or use stuffit. it's going to take a little more effort - even zipped it's too big for e-mail, s I will have to make a bunch of zip files...
I also found a pretty cool site where you can download sounds too!! Just go to Your Everything Outdoor Headquarters, AverageOutdoorsman.com then click on sounds on the top left. Once there pick which sound you want and follow the instructions!!
