Between Frankfurt & Louisville I see Jefferson Memorial Forest, Taylorsville Lake WMA, and a ton of National Forest Land in that general area. Kind of SW of there seems to be a bunch of land as well, how should we narrow it down?

No problem with the long drive I enjoy that part. It's the gas $$$ that's a killer

Ok here’s the thing about Fishtrap.. It is the most vertical place I’ve ever been to in my life. I lived in that area for a few years and hunted that WMA and I can tell you this. If your not in great shape, it may literally kill you. I never paced a stand in because it was way too steep and the hour and a half walk in was all up hill. First time I hunted there I made the mistake of eating before walking in. well I saw my breakfast again about halfway up the mountain. But, because it is so god awful rugged there are some very large deer there. That WMA has a later quota hunt that happens around thanksgiving. Generally that county has a very low deer population compared to other regions and unless you have four wheeler access, which the WMA does not, you will need a knee replacement at the end of the week.

As to some of the other WMA’s mentioned. I live in Scott County KY and do know about Veterans WMA. There’s a high deer population and the access is fairly easy. Its also right off I-75. The only problem is the gun quotas happen the 1st weekend in November every year. That included Veterans, and Kleeber, both of which I’m familiar with. I would say the first weekend in November is also the first gun hunt at Taylorsville Lake WMA.
There is the Primitive weapons area around Cave Run in North Eastern KY. It’s part of the Daniel Boone National Forest. There’s lots of camping and some motels close to I-64. Only problem is I don’t know if compounds are allowed. It may be a recurve, and flint lock only area. You would have to check the regs. Also this area has a low deer population and the terrain is hilly, but it’s nothing like the hell on earth that is Fishtrap Lake WMA.
I’ll be glad to offer any input other input I can.
Also check out the KDFWR website. It has harvest data for public lands and maps..

Taylorsville is big and has a good deer population, just check the KDFWR site on the gun hunt dates. It's close to Louisville so it gets pressure. I think T-ville has 3 gun hunts. Most WMA gun hunts are that first weekend in November. Thats also IMO the one weekend you have to be on a stand with your bow in this state. I do know some of the state parks offered hunts this year during the late season. It was a total package with the hunt and rooms/meals included. I don't think license was included. The state parks have nice hotels and good deer populations. I'm pretty sure these were late December or January hunts.

Then you wouldn't be interesred in this. He was taken about 5 miles from HH as the crow flies back in the 60's.

Not that I wouldn't be interested...I mean hell winning the lottery interests me ;]

I've never been a "trophy" hunter per say so that doesn't matter a ton to me is all I meant. I'm more interested in how we can narrow it down to a specific place based on the info we have.

HH looks good and there also seems to be a bunch of other spots within driving distance of there like Pennyrile SF, Sloughs WMA, Green River State Forest, Tradewater WMA, Jones Keeney WMA. Admittedly I know nothing other than internet info on all of them.

If your talking about the sloughs in henderson , they are just a couple minutes from me. They used to be hunted heavily , not sure about now,but there is no real camping.

I was being facetious with my above post. That deer was taken by my stepdads uncle. Here is a deer that was taken down by the sloughs by my stepdad. Both were gun kills.
